Chapter 1: Spoilers
"Hey Nira!"
I heard my friend Damon call from across the Great Hall and sat down across from him, smiling. Damon had curly black hair and a dark complexion, making the dimples that appeared when he smiled even cuter. He had been talking to some girls at the table behind him, but turned around when he saw me walking towards our eating spot. Comically, the girls silently cheered and thanked me, turning back around.
"Hey Damon, what's up?"
"You missed so much!" he started, updating me on the events that had somehow already happened while I was getting ready in the Slytherin commons.
"Hagrid stabbed himself with a fork, again," he said smiling as I laughed, "Snape tripped on the steps going up to the table and almost fell too," he said offhandedly, acting like that wasn't what he had wanted to tell me from the start.
"No way," I started as we both started cracking up, making the people surrounding us give weird looks. I looked at Snape, who looked back at me in a way that made it seem like he knew what we were talking about. He had a talent for looking both condescending and all knowing at the same time, although we all knew he had a soft spot for his favorite Slytherin students.
As Damon and I continued laughing I commented, "Suck my dick Cindy," to one particularly stuck up girl who had rolled her eyes at our excessive laughter, only making Damon laugh harder.
Wiping the tears of laughter that had formed under our eyes, Damon and I refocused on the main event of the previous night, the new episode of our favorite muggle show, Doctor Who.
Being at Hogwarts, we were not always able to stay up to date on the latest episodes and news from the show. Damon and I had actually attempted to start a Doctor Who fan club the previous year, but it wasn't very successful considering the terrible connection at the school and the lack of support from administration, who should have seen the importance of Doctor Who culture and helped a witch out, honestly. Also, it seemed we were the only ones who had previously watched the show, showing what terrible Brits my classmates were.
Back to the main topic, Doctor Who was an amazing show about a time travellor called "The Doctor" who traveled in a TARDIS and saved people and planets. He usually traveled with a companion, a human who accompanies him to these different places so he's not lonely. In this season, the companion happened to be Clara Oswald, a lovable school teacher who frequently traveled and helped him in his missions. Clara wasn't my favorite companion, but to Damon Clara was like a God that graced television with her presence, one episode at a time.
Yesterday, there had been another episode called "Face the Raven," which sounded ominous to me. Although there were usually no deaths in the show, the spooky sounding title made me suspect something was going to go awry. Talking to Damon, he kept his carefree attitude and reminded me that the doctor always saves the day.
As we continued eating and talking, we made plans to go into the tower during free period to try to catch up on the show.
Picking up a grape from the table, I saw the owls flying above to deliver mail and messages. I looked for my owl, Hedgehog, in the crowd of flying creatures. Surprised, I watched him fly carefully downwards to my table, holding a red envelope.
"Shit, I think that's a howler."
"No, do you think it's because of that stupid grade on the potions test? How does mum even know about that?" I said in a panic, fearing the dreaded message.
"I don't know, didn't you get a like a 70? How is that a bad grade?"
"I got an 84 and to her it's bad," I said scaredly, fearfully awaiting the incoming message.
I watched apprehensively as Hedgehog landed, delivering the blood red envelope. As he landed, he set the envelope in front of me and flew away, probably to somewhere close waiting for my reply.
I reached towards it, then looked up and realized I had attracted an audience. Glaring, I looked back down, considering taking it somewhere less public but knowing it would explode if i tried.
It's not everyday someone gets chewed out by a letter, I don't blame them for staring
I continued staring until someone behind me brought me out of my thoughts.
"You gonna open it or no?"
"Fine, I can do this," I said, preparing myself and inching my hand towards the letter. Finally reaching it, I hovered my hand above and broke the seal.
The letter flew up and was quiet for a second, then uttered the two worst words I could ever hear, shocking me into silence. Damon was quiet behind me, and i could've sworn a tear rolled down his face before he wiped it away.
"Clara dies"
I sat there, shocked for a moment, and took in the offending statement. Watching the letter tear itself into pieces, I imagined that was my love for Clara, torn up and gone in a fiery explosion.
I stood up, dejected, and Damon and I walked out of the Great Hall mournfully. I heard Amy scream in horror, seeing she must have heard the awful spoilers about the death of the beloved companion and must not have seen the episode either.
Walking around later, I checked out a hex book in the library to plot my revenge against my brothers, who had sent the letter. No one spoils my show and gets away with it.
