ENTANGLED

Can an accident prove to be a clue to a passionate love-affair?

It is a cold sunny day in Muscat. The sun is spreading its rays on the majestic Hajar Mountains. The beautiful weather allows one to scale down their convertibles’ hood. One such person is Denzel White and his fiancée Julia. Denzel is cruising past the scenic mountains in his BMW Z3 with Julia. They are going to get married.

They are at a juncture. Denzel is slightly impatient and is contemplating to eschew the signal. Julia tells him to be patient and concentrate on the drive.

The signal turns green. The Z3 is about to zoom forward when Denzel notices a BMW 7-Series blazingly approaching it. In no time the Z3 is pushed badly towards the other side while the BMW breaks the divider and rams into a pile of sand and then flips on its frontal side. It finally hits a solitary house.

Moments later, a convoy of police vehicles arrives at the accident spot. The whole area is cordoned off. A Mitsubishi Galant stops near the heavily damaged Z3. Inspector Halmer Wilkins alights from the car. He inspects the passenger side of the car, his attention being pulled towards the wide stare present on Julia’s face. Denzel is perched on the steering wheel. Ambulance teams arrive with stretcher and carry the bodies. A tow truck arrives and takes the car. A sub inspector, Roy D’Souza, grabs Wilkins’ attention towards the other partner in crime.

Wilkins is aghast at the sight of the brutally damaged car. He orders D’Souza to take the car to the station and instructs him to summon the families of all the three deceased. He notices there is fatally injured body of a person. ‘Oh my… Robert Valder, Valder Industries’ owner’ Halmer recognizes the body

At the police station, Halmer is waiting for the families. D’Souza informs him that they couldn’t figure out who are the other two as Cameron White’s (the BMW Z3’s driver) wallet didn’t contain his name or any other detail. But Valder’s wife has been informed about his death. As they are conversing about the accident, Robert’s blonde wife, Rosa Valder, enters the cabin in a completely shocked state. She demands to see the Robert’s body. Halmer tries to calm her down, but Rosa doesn’t relent to his humility. She breaks down. Halmer and Roy are silent for a while. A lady officer then escorts Rosa to the forensic centre where his body is been held.

After sometime, Halmer receives the forensic report. ‘While the couple died on the spot due to wounds inflicted by the accident, the third person died from asphyxiation due to strangulation of the neck.’ Halmer is shocked to read the report. Roy is summoned immediately. Halmer asks him to start the investigation into this accident quickly. He orders Roy to check the schedule of Robert in the morning prior to the accident and asks him to search his phone records as he feels that Robert may well be murdered. Roy is puzzled by Halmer’s claims. Still he proceeds with Halmer’s orders.

Rosa is summoned to the police station. Halmer summons her as she would know better what happened in the morning.

‘So tell me how was Robert as a person?’

‘As far as I’m concerned, he was a very kind person and had an irreverent sense of humor.’

‘How was your marriage?’

‘We weren’t on talking terms are we were in the process of formalizing our divorce for reasons best known to me.’

‘May I know those “reasons”?’

‘I’m sorry but I wouldn’t wish to give in to your demands.’

‘You may leave ma’am, but you’ll have to come for further investigation.’
