How is it even fucking possible that rain could fall from her planet's skies. You don't know. The Land of Thought and Flow just keeps you guessing. The rain is pretty much pouring now and the skies are covered in thick grey, almost black clouds. You're fucking soaked to the point where you'll be 100% water in no time.
“Terezi. Really. You need to get back here.” You call into your speaker crab. There's an offsetting rumbling in the distance. And you know those flashes in the sky don't look normal. And yes, the sky in this land is constantly flashing. But you've sorta gotten used to it.
Shit, it's a thunderstorm.
“Why?” Terezi's questions. Her voice can barely be heard through the rain that's pouring down, so you run for the forest. The rain softens up a bit, but not much. The only thing that changes is the sound of the water pattering against the leaves. It's really annoying and does nothing to help your hearing. “Karkat, are you there?” her voice sounds a little worried.
“Hold the fuck up give me two seconds.” You pant as you continue sprinting through the forest. You grab your sickle and look around, sort of like those really weird hoofbeasts with those antlers. A large bolt of cold blue slices the clouds for a split second, and soon after it the world rumbles and the sky moans. You stand there for a little bit in awe as the thunder subsides.
That was lightning. You're not stupid. It was really close. Like, seriously. If you squint your eyes and look far enough, you can see part of a tree that's charred and if you look up (though that's insanely hard) you can see smoke snake into the sky. “Karkat!” Another slash of lightning across the sky, then another, and the thunder seems to grow louder and longer to the point where it's shaking a lot and you wouldn't be surprised if there was an earthquake after this. All two bolts were still really close to you. You're really surprised your ears aren't bleeding. But you have a feeling your eardrums are probably shattered.
You take no time to stay in one place. The lightning is now coming at a near unstoppable pace, and thunder rakes the world every few seconds. Your lucky if you can get a break from it at all. Terezi is now yelling over the speaker, but the connection here is getting messed up. You can only hear her for about a few seconds before lightning streaks the sky again and her voice is cut off for a few seconds more.
You're constantly tripping over rocks and roots and soggy ruts in the ground, where the rain has made the grass and dirt sink a little. Now you are not only soaked to the nines, but you are also covered with mud. Since that somehow takes top priority, you have to stop to make sure you aren't bleeding. So you keep on running until you find a large tree. The dirt around it's roots have either been dug up, or it just wasn't there. Somehow, the roots seem to be blocking out the rain and it's probably the driest spot you can hope for at the moment.
You scoot yourself under there, and rest your back against the trunk, tucking your knees up to your chest. You roll up your shirt arms and pant legs a little. The worst you have so far is a huge bruise. That's good. But you're breathing like crazy. You decide to just rest here for a little bit.
“Karkat! You better fucking pick up or-” Her voice is drowned by static. Then it dips back in. “-Okay!? I'm heading back to the tree and you-” More static but it picks up quickly. “-be there when I come back or I am going to make you stand out there in the rain!” Her voice is a little cracked. “Terezi.” You finally catch your breath enough to speak clearly. “Karkat! Oh you're in big troubl-” a large crack of lightning rips through the sky. But this time, it isn't just near you.
This time, Thunder instantly rumbles and cracks the sky and you have to cover your ears. Even then it's still the loudest thing you've heard. Holy fucking shit, either the world is rumbling a lot or you're shaking tons.
You scream a little, and try to poke yourself out of the roots of the tree. Your tree has just been hit by the lightning. As you're trying to climb out of it, something hits you and it's really heavy. It forces you back on the ground, and you climb back into the hole, coughing and gagging. The acrid tang of smoke fills your lungs, as well as dirt and various piece of wood. Bark? You peek your head outside of the roots again. The lightning stripped the whole tree of bark. There is a long black crack right in the middle of the tree. Smoke plumes out of it and there's a non-stop hissing.
You're face is covered in mud and soot now, but you'll worry about that later. You scramble out of the tree, and start to run some more, you've lost your sense of direction and now you don't know where Terezi's tree is. You figure by this time, with those stupid dragon wing rockets of hers, she's made it to the tree already. You lift your right wrist up to your mouth and speak into the speaker. But Terezi's yelling voice doesn't greet you. Just a little robotic beep. “Connection Status: Corrupted. Switch networks? Troubleshoot Problems?”
Oh shit. Shit. You look around. You figure you'll just go forward for the time being. Besides, this little copse of trees looks right. You take one more deep breath, and continue sprinting forward with your new-found energy. Besides, if you need help you just need to try and look into the sky and search for the tallest tree.
More lightning zips through the sky. Each time lightning does that, the speaker crab repeats the same phrase it said to you before.
The rain starts to let up a little thank god. But that luck doesn't last for long. Soon the rain comes pouring down even harder than ever, and now it starts to hurt! And it doesn't sound like rain. You look down, and you nearly scream in frustration. It's hail. And now it's starting to come down as crazy as the rain. You put your hand on your forehead and continue running through the white storm of ice.
