Mirajane continued through the woody area on her way to the main field. She thought of Maykel on the way. She had to admit he was attractive and he seemed charming. But she didn't like him, rather couldn't. She couldn't fall for his trap. She knew he would use her and she didn't like being played. That specifically made her mad. The same thing is what happened to her sister.
She was only 10 and her little sister, Marena, was 6. She loved Marena, more than anything. She would've done anything for her and she tried. Some brutes were planning on breaking in the Gates of the Red League. Mirajane only found out after being granted limited passage outside of the Gates. She was to watch Marena. While playing, the brutes wicked voices rumbled throughout. Mirajane grabbed her young sister and ran towards the Gates. Almost there some young brutes stopped her. They attempted to persuade her that they were fine and nothing bad would happen if they just let them in. Wanting to protect Marena she got them to the gate, but she had to admit she was scared to death. As the Gates opened for the two girls the brutes laughed in their wicked way and run through the gates. One in particular scooped up Marena saying she was adorable but that she was stupid for letting them in. Mirajane attempted to grab her back but was struck by the brute. Her vision fading she heard the horrific screams of her sister and the disgusting laugh of the brute.
Since then she has grown to hate brutes even more than usual. She blames herself for her sisters death and for the brutes breaking in. She knew it was her fault, they tricked her and since then she didn't talk much to people. Who's to stop a human from doing what the brutes did that day and she didn't want the league getting upset at her so she pushed everyone away. Her friends were never spoken to again, she only had small talk with her parents considering they were the league leaders, and she never would ever trust a guy. That's why she couldn't let Maykel get to her. It would ruin her, all over again.
She wiped away a small tear as she reached the open area of the main field. She was instantly greeted by guards as they took the bear away from her. She nodded a thanks to them and walked to "Game Table". The table where you put your brand next to the game on the list. From the description obviously one could simply lie and claim specific game for their own. And they have before but now a guard checks the brand on the game after one marks the list.
She flipped through the list and found the one called light bear. She gasped to see a brand already by the name. Her face scrunched up when she recognized the brand; Maykel. Furious, she walks over to the lounge (where you go when you're done with the trial) and stands on her tiptoes. She scans over heads looking for the player. She found him flirting with a low ranked girl in the trial. Mirajane rolls her eyes and walks over to him, grabbing her bow and holding it firmly.
" Hey!" She calls as he looks over at her surprisingly happy.
"Oh so you need my help now?" He says smirking, walking towards her, forgetting about the girl rookie.
" No. I wanna know why you put your brand on my game on the list!?" She asks, her hand turning a different color gripping the bow.
" What do you mean your game?" He looked around and the crowd gathering at our drama, " Do you see this guys? Just because you're #1 ranked doesn't mean you can take other peoples game. I know you saw me kill that bear." The crowd oohs and gasps as she rolls her eyes.
" Ask the guards! They just took the bear from me, so try again!" She says darting her eyes at the guard that took the bear away from her.
" I did take it from her...I don't remember you." The guard chirps in. Maykel, shocked, turns a shade of red I've never seen. He was caught in his own lie. He stopped and thought for a moment as his friends pushed him to say something back.
" Yes you may have taken it from her but she stole it from me before I could brand it! She saw me kill it! It is MY game." He says, finally thinking of something. Mirajane gasps, then gritting her teeth.
" Look at the wounds on the bear! There are obviously arrow and dagger wounds from MY weapons." She argued smartly. A guard frowned and nodded, motioning for another to bring the bear. The bear was brought by two men. They played it down and studied the wounds.
" Definitely a dagger but very little proof of an arrow. We would have to run some tests." One guard finally says. Maykel reaches to his side and whips out his dagger.
" Do what you must but it is MY game!" Maykel says smirking at Mirajane. She puts a hand on her hip and shifts a little, scowling up at Maykel. She avoided his trickful eyes and looked away. He smirked again and stepped forward, putting his dagger back. He reached an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him as the chatter grew about different things from the crowd. She tensed at his touch and caught her breath. He reached his mouth to her ear to whisper.
" Nice try baby doll but you can't win this one. Or you can be nice and maybe I won't let them make your punishment that harsh." He whispered to her. He pulled back some and their faces were inches away. He grab her chin with his free hand, still holding her firmly. Mirajane tried to resist and move away but he was way bigger than her. He slowly went forward and kissed her softly. She refused to kiss him back, it was all a game. One she specifically didn't want to play.
She finally got so mad she pushed him back. Still holding her bow she grabbed an arrow and got it ready to fire.
"Try that again and I WILL fire!" She threatened. The crowd gasped and chattered over them again as guards came to get Mirajane.
