Ughh ... I pull the blanket back up over my head, just five more minutes,I tell myself knowing full well that isn't an option. I sigh as I look at my phone to see what time it is. Crap! It's already 6:30 I'm running late!! I force myself to roll out of bed and rush to get ready. It's a good thing I showered last night I think to myself as I slip into the nearest clothes I can find, which happens to be jeans and a Star Wars T- shirt. I grab a hoodie and sling my bag over my shoulder as I hurry out the door. The bus pulls up just as I get to the stop, that was close I think to myself as I step on the bus.
I hate Mondays, I say as I slid into the seat next to my friend Cassandra. Nice to see you too, she retorts. I roll my eyes, I'm serious Cas I don't want to be here today. She laughs, you say that every day. Well, It's true everyday, I say. Cas laughs again, touché, she says as the bus pulls up to the building. I walk to the door but I hesitate before going into the hell hole that they call high school. I sigh and say, I ain't ready for this under my breath as I step through the door. I walk to my locker to throw my stuff in there because I have gym first period.
I see my friend Hannah walk up to me, Hey, how'd you sleep? she asks as she leans over to grab a granola bar out of my locker. Eh it's been worse, I answer knowing that she knows I have pretty bad insomnia. You? Not too bad, I got a whole 5 hours, she replies. You're overworking yourself, I warn her for the umpteenth time. Someone's got to do it, she says. I shake my head disapprovingly at her as I say, gotta go I'll see you in Class, as I start to walk away. I yawn as I'm walking away, it's good I have gym first or I'd never stay awake during the day.****
The rest of the school day goes by fairly uneventfully. As soon as the 3:10 bell rings I'm the first one out the door. I rush to my locker for no reason except that I don't want to be in this building for any longer than I have to. After I grab what I need I start towards the auditorium exit where the busses are, but I feel someone grab my arm. I don't even have to look to know who it is. Hey Matt, I say unenthusiastically. You weren't even going to wait for me babe? He asks. Sorry I was just in a hurry to get out of here, I reply. Why, what's up? He inquires. Oh nothing, just had a long day, I say. Oh ok, he seems satisfied with this response. I wait for him at his locker and then we walk to the busses together, he leans in and kisses me before he leaves. I've never been a fan of public displays of affection but I've never told him that. It's not his fault it makes me uncomfortable, but I don't know why I haven't brought it up to him... A voice pulls me from me thoughts.
Hey Maddie! Oh hi Cas, I respond. We talk the whole bus ride home and more at the bus stop before we each head home. Ugh... now I have to go home to my family, I say as I start to walk away. You'll be fine, Cas yells to me, see you tomorrow! Unfortunately! I yell back as I roll my eyes and the last thing I hear is her laugh as she walks away. I turn my attention to the yelling I hear and I know it's coming from my house. I reach the door and just stand there for a minute bracing myself for what I'm about to walk into....
