Imagination and the darkness.

Darkness has been there from the time of our birth. If you think about it, we should be accustomed to it but close to all of us are a little nyctophobic in one way or another. We don't know why. We all tell ourselves that there is nothing to be afraid of but the voice in the back of our heads tell us otherwise. I myself no longer fear the darkness and its presence, it is no longer a stranger to me. However I do fear the things that reside under its cloak. Or at least what my mind tells me lingers inside it. Darkness is the opposite of light, more like the absence of it. Darkness shrouds what it touches and creates a blank canvas. Your imagination and your fears act as the brush that paints that canvas. I'm not saying that you should be ignorantly afraid of it. Because ignorance fuels fear and fear can fuel your imagination.

I guess that's why we would lay in bed at night with our heads under the covers because we think there is something there waiting to get us from under our bed or from the dark corner of our closet. Every sound and every creek gives us a slight panic attack. Our hearts and minds would race and conjure up the boogie man and open the hatch that let the monster sneak under our beds. Your imagination is a wonderful and powerful thing.

We are the most imaginative when we are young so it makes sense that we would think that way. It's what keeps you entertained throughout the day and what let you express your creativity. But you must retain concentration to keep it under control and from tempting you with day dreams.
