Jason wakes up in the Dream Room, the boring white room where the robots monitor his dreams.
He turns his head to look at the Watch Station, sees the blank screens, the confused robots, and remembers to pull off the tape, so the robots would know he's awake.
The screens turn completely off and Robob, the head robot, the only robot who can communicate with humans, turns to look at Jason.
"Well, well, look who's had the same dream every day for a week," he says smugly. "You know, if this keeps happening, you will go through the Changing early."
Jason shivers at the thought. The Changing is when someone is turned into a robot, turned into one of them.
"Yes," Jason replies. " I will try my hardest to dream differently."
Robob turns to the others and makes beeps and boops, until the one of the others turns to push the silver gurney Jason is on into the blindingly white hallway.
After a few turns, they get to a section of the wall with A124 written in black on the button. The robot gingerly touches in, and the wall slides open to reveal Jason's small holding cell.
The robot rolls the gurney into the room and unstraps the velcro holding down Jason's hands and feet. Jason quickly jumps off the gurney, knowing the robots hate being kept waiting.
The robot pushes the gurney out of the room and back into the hall, the wall doors closing behind him, leaving Jason alone with his thoughts.
