Warriors - Sorrelstar's Quest

Prologue

"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, join me beneath the highrock for a clan meeting!"

In response, all the warriors and apprentices of BloodClan crowded beneath the highrock, which was occupied by Sorrelstar.
Sorrelstar was a tortoiseshell tom with emerald green eyes and a small, circular notch in his left ear. He had that whole ear ripped off before, but apparently StarClan fixed it.

"It is time that I journey to the MoonStone," Sorrelstar declared. "Would anyone be willing to voyage with me?"

"I - I g-g-guess s-so," Starry trembled from the back of the crowd. He was a small, skittish, newly appointed warrior with a black pelt and blind, white eyes.

"Or I can go alone, if you like," Sorrelstar offered.

If Starry thinks he has to, why force him? he thought.

"Not in my lifetime, you won't!" an elder called from the fallen tree.
When he stepped out, he was a green-eyed tortoiseshell with the tip of his tail ripped off.

"Father, I can do this alone," Sorrelstar assured him.

"You saw what happened to Galaxy! He hunted alone for TWO SECONDS, and then he got killed by a badger!" the tom yowled.

"If none of the clan is willing-" Sorrelstar began, but was cut off.

"I'll go," a white tom declared. He pushed his way past the crowd and dipped his head to Sorrelstar.

"Stoneclaw, are you sure-" Sorrelstar mewed.

"Yes! I am the surest cat in this whole clan!" Stoneclaw snapped.

"Very well," Sorrelstar nodded. "I shall choose the next cat. Skunkpaw, would you be willing?"

A small, furry white apprentice with a thick tail and a black stripe running along his back trotted past the crowd.

"Yes, sir!" he mewed with delight.

"Alright, it's settled!" Sorrelstar declared. "We leave at SunHigh tomorrow! Meeting dismissed."

All of the cats poured back to their normal duties. Skunkpaw sprang into the nursery to tell his mother that he had been chosen.

Lucky Skunkpaw, Sorrelstar thought, he still has a mother.

But Sorrelstar quickly shook it off and padded into his den to sleep. When he entered, a prophecy was carved into one of the walls. Sorrelstar assumed it was the prophecy about kits from every clan saving the world or ending the war...

Already, Sorrelstar's eyelids felt heavy. He struggled to stay awake, but soon he had fallen fast asleep...
