I awake. The bedside clock blazes 3:30 into my retinas. The humming is back. Right there, outside my window; it's getting louder and louder. Just like last time, the white light pierces the shades, and I shut my eyes tight. Tighter and tighter, trying to shut out the light. It grows brighter, however, and the humming gets even louder. If I wasn't locked in this position, I could cover my eyes, pull up the sheets- do anything to stop me from seeing. Then I hear movement across my empty room, and all my willpower goes toward keeping my eyes tightly closed. I can sense them standing at the foot of my bed, like always.

Maybe if I don't look, they'll go away. Maybe if my eyelids remain like this, blocking the white light and the dark figures.

The humming isn't stopping.

They're still there, aren't they?
