"Hey, Aberdeen!", called a familiar voice.
Around I turned to catch the eye of one of my closest friends, Kennedy. The fact that I can see her already smiling I know that she is as excited as I am to go on winter vacation. The only thing holding us back from already being on vacation is the reality that the school day hasn't even begun.
As I begin walking towards this wonder of a gal, I notice her look behind me and give a weird looking face. I swiftly spin around quick enough to see Nate have one finger against his mouth signaling Kennedy to keep his sneaky action of secrecy. Classic Nathaniel, always demolishing his own stunts. When he notices my awareness he looks away and pulls his finger down quickly as if I never saw what he was doing.
" You are aware that I just saw that, right?", I say raising an eyebrow and placing a hand on my hip.
He smoothly glides his arm through the gap between my arm and side to interlock his with mine.
" Saw what?", he says winking. I only giggle until we make our way to Kennedy.
" So what do you ladies plan on doing on Saturday", Nate asks looking at us with a serious face.
"Really Nate? Do you dare ask that question?", Kennedy says in an obviously daring voice. Nate doesn't even bother looking at me for a defense and goes straight to putting his hands up in surrender.
"Nate, how many times do we have to tell you that we are going to watch a movie? I mean, how could you not know if you're the one taking us?" I say sincerely.
" I know. I know. I was just messing with you g-", Nate gets interrupted when I reached out and started choking him. Kennedy, with all her strength, couldn't pull me off of him! Not even his red face could convince me to let go. Just kidding. I would never do that, especially to him. It was the bell that interrupted him.
It was, of course, our signal to start heading to class. Unfortunately, I had first period with neither of them, whereas they had it together.
" Alright I'll see you guys in third period!", I said walking in the opposite direction that they were.
I heard their goodbyes, then I hear Nate shout, " Wait one more thing!".
I smiled, I knew what was coming. Nate jogged up to my side.
We stared into each others' eyes and Nate said, " This is what I forgot". He leaned in and planted a delicate kiss on my cheek. Even after the countless kisses on cheeks that we shared I couldn't help but blush.
"Take care, love", he said in a soft voice.
" I shall, but you mustn't misbehave during your lectures", I say as he takes hold of my hand. He slowly raises it and before kissing it he says,
" Anything for you, my dear". All while looking deep into my eyes.
" Do guys mind cutting off the dramatic romance and not being late?!", Kennedy shouts, taking us out of our gaze.
As he walks away he winks and off they go to class, as do I.
By the time 2nd period had ended I just wanted to be home already to begin my break from our full 1st semester. I remember like it was just yesterday when we had started school. Seeing Kennedy for the first time before she left to Washington to visit family for summer vacation. Giving Nate a tight, warm hug for the first time in two long months after not seeing him. Without a doubt, the three of us would text in a group chat, and Kennedy and I would call at times. As for Nate and I, not only would we text in the group chat, but we would send long letters and anticipate the delivery of each other's reply. It was his idea of romance, which I don't mind. Yes, we do live rather close to each other but the thing is that during each summer my family and I drive to Las Vegas to visit the rest of our family since the majority of them live there. In California, it's just us and my Aunt Clarissa who lives with her 2nd husband. She does have a son with her 1st husband but he's already in college and I never really talked to him anyway. Back to the point: Here I was, a sophomore with only half a year left of being so. I'm not complaining or anything. I'm just surprised that I've survived and now I have to hope I do until I graduate. Actually I've been doing pretty well lately. All thanks to Kennedy, speaking of which...
