I really enjoyed the book, it kept me on my toes. The world was created beautifully, be warned that your heart will break and you will cry so wear waterproof mascara and eyeliner.I didn't because I was on the Internet and spoiled myself by accident but it still intrigued me in multiple areas. Adrenaline will rush through your veins and you will gasp thinking your heart stopped. Also there is no 'How to pronounce stuff' guide so if your reading this Victoria Aveyard make sure to put that in the next book because I don't want to pronounce the character's names wrong.
I gave it 5/5 because this is Victoria Aveyard's first book and it's  absolutely phenomenal you would think she wrote 100 books before this one.

This next part will contain spoilers and swearing (not very much though). You have been warned don't comment on this saying I spoiled the book. Also brace yourself an angry Fangirl is about to be released. Also I wrote this 20 minutes after I finish the book.

First things first ; HOW DARE YOU VICTORIA AVEYARD! MAVEN I LOVED YOU WITH THE FIRE OF A THOUSAND SUNS AND TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE ME !!!!

I'm so angry at the author at the same time I love her so much because making Maven betray Mare is genius and heartbreaking . Evangeline is complete b*tch who the f*ck does she think she is. Every time she talks I'm yelling in my head 'Go slap the sh*t out of her Mare!'.King Tibe (I can't be bothered to spell out his full name) is an oblivious idiot and a terrible parent. You neglected Maven and you expect him to love you ; are you that blind? Also I wouldn't chose Elara no matter how strong she is because you can see and smell how untrustworthy she is . She's been radiating it since she talked to Mare the first time in the book.

That part where he screams at Mare saying she poisoned his son I wanted to scream but I'm on an airplane  so I didn't. Elara poisoned her son, she made him bitter. She's jealous of Coriane and still is. Let me repeat that please because this brings me so much joy.
Elara is jealous of a dead woman, even after her death .
She wants everything Cal has for Maven. The ways she's getting there isn't the best. She didn't even consider that being King will put Maven in danger because the more important you are the more people are out to get you. Putting Maven on the throne the way she did can break him. She's breaking him with guilt. One day it's going to catch up to him and choke him just like Mare said.

On to Maven , my favorite character. I have a lot of sympathy for Maven because he's been neglected by his father , used as a pawn by his mother  and been compared to Cal despite being very different from Cal by the people surrounding him. I can see why he's bitter, the message is easy to interpret. My feelings for Maven is bittersweet, I love him and want to comfort and give him the attention he never had at the same time  I want to beat him up for want he's done. I still love him even though he ended up being a backstabbing viper . I hope that when his end comes he gets mercy because he has been poisoned my his own mother Elara. The queen bitch. Maybe come to your senses Maven?

Mare is a different story for me . I have bittersweet feelings for her though their more bitter than sweet. She could have tried to find out more about Coriane because there is a clear connection between her and Elara. If the crown prince's mothers dies and a new queen comes and takes her place. This new queen has mind manipulation   powers who wouldn't want to find out what happen. There is clearly a connection. Although I'll give her point for adapting to the game of thrones so well if Gisa or any other Red is in her position I feel like they would have been puppets for Elara and Tibe. I call it a game of thrones because it is. People are fighting for it and the royals try to maintain it .
Can you blame them ?
Power is like a beautiful woman, you get a taste of her and you want more but some one comes along with more to offer more love, more money offering to give up everything for her. When they give her everything she takes it and leaves .
The Silvers have been raised to believe that power is the only that matters, Mare is unable to emphasize to that this is how they are raise. She is unable to realize that they are victims of the world just as much as she is.

I don't really have anything but to say about Cal other that you really shouldn't be around Mare so much. I mean how greedy can you get. She's your half brother's girl.

What I want to say to each character:

King Tiberias : You need to start listening to people and pay attention to the people in your court. Keep an eye on them for gods sake !

Queen Elara : Your a terrible mother and wife . Power isn't the only thing that matters.

Mare Barrow : You need to learn some detective skills and make up your mind about which boy you love. I can tell you still love Maven I do too.

Prince Cal : You are a terrible brother, why couldn't you let Maven have something? Mare is his betrothed for god sake.

Prince Maven : You need to grow some balls or gather some and stand up to your mother and be your own person. If you want to be together you will have to-get-her.

The Royal Family : You all have a problem and you need to admit it and go to therapy and get yourself sorted.

A day later :
Negatives about Red Queen, at certain points is slow. I can't really think of other negatives.
