"How much longer until we get there Mom?" Asked Levi. "Yeah, Mrs. Renley. How much longer? My legs are starting to cramp." Said Kyle, Levi's friend. "Not for another half hour, boys."
"Will you guys please be quiet? I'm trying to sleep here." The sleepy voice of Andrew interrupted the conversation, "I can't believe I let you talk me into this."
"Well it's to late to go back now Andrew, so you better enjoy this camping trip while you can."
As the boys continued talking for the next twenty minutes, Levi's mother noticed that the GPS had started being faulty, "That's not good" she said, " the GPS stopped working, it won't turn back on."
"Well then how are we going to get to the camp if we don't know where it is?" Asked Levi concerned that this could ruin their fun weekend. "We could always go home." Suggested Andrew still not thrilled to be away from home. "It's okay" Levi's mom interrupted, "I think I know where it is from here. I use to camp there when I was a your age."
A few turns later the car was driving along the gravel covered road lined with empty camp sites. "Where is everyone?" Asked Andrew, "it looks like the entire camp has been abandoned."
"Well maybe nobody wanted to camp this weekend."said Kyle. "But what about staff members. Shouldn't there be a life guard by the beach or a staff member driving around?" Andrew continued to question. "Who knows, maybe they only work on certain days."
Arriving at the site they were supposed to be staying at Levi's mom proceeded to park and get out of her car. "Ok let's get our tents set up and then maybe we can go swimming in the lake that we passed." She shouted to the three boys who just stepped out of her car.
After both tents were set up and all the cooking supplies unpacked every one took a minute to sit down and admire their work. "I'm going to take a picture to send to my mom" exclaimed Kyle pulling out his phone " then I can prove to her that I can set up a tent without hurting myself." Attempting to send the pictures a frown formed on his face. "That's weird, I have no cell service."
"More people! I thought I had gotten rid of them all!" Spoke a shadowy figure to himself as he paced back and forth. "This is not good, not good at all. They must be here to force me back into that horrible place. But I won't go back, no I won't. Something must be done about this... this catastrophe!" He said. After a few minutes of thinking he suddenly stopped pacing the perfect plan forming in his head. "Looks like I might just pay them a little visit."
It was almost an hour after the sun had set, and everyone had settled around the campfire to roast marshmallows and make some s'mores. "Isn't this great," asked Levi's mom, "it's the perfect night to be sitting around the campfire."
"Yeah it is! Camping is, like, the best thing ever!" Said Kyle in agreement. CRACK. "Did you guys hear that?" Andrew whispered. "I'm sure it was just a rabbit or squirrel, Andrew." Levi replied, "Don't worry about it."
"Okay. Well, I need to go to the bathroom so I'll be back in a minute," Andrew said, "don't eat all the marshmallows while I'm gone"
"We won't!"
After ten minutes of Andrew not returning the gang started to get a little worried. "Don't you thing Andrew should be back by now mom?" Asked Levi concerned for the wellbeing of heirs friend. "Yeah it has been a while." His mother replied.
Suddenly a loud scream sounded through the empty camp grounds. "That sounded like Andrew," stated Kyle instantly freaked out by the noise, "he might be in trouble. We have to find him."
"But where did the scream come from?" Asked Levi,"we should go find him."
"Ok boys calm down." Interrupted Levi's mom, "we will find him but we must stay together."
Now trudging through the the dense forest, looking for Andrew, the trio stumbled upon a interesting sight. "It looks as if a homeless guy has been living here." Kyle said loudly. "KYLE, please be quiet, there might still be a person around." Levi's mother asked. "Guys I think I found Andrew!" Shout Levi his voice shaking slightly. Running towards the sound of Levi's voice, they found him chronicled next to the lifeless unmoving body of Andrew, the smell of blood in the air. Slowly standing up, the moonlight shone on Levi revealing the blood that stained his fingers. "I... I think he's dead."
"Quickly, quickly. We're leaving right now." Said Levi's mom ushering the two boys throughout the forest. "Since we don't have cell service I want to call the police as soon as we reach a town."
"Okay do you-" Levi started to ask but was cut off the short scream of his mother. Turning around he and Kyle saw that his mother had disappeared from the spot she was just standing in. "Mom....Mom where are you?" Shouted Levi. "RUN, BOYS RUN." Screamed his mother as she emerged from the bushes a dark figure following behind, "SAVE YOURSELVES!" Then turning around to avoid the horrific sight of his mother being murdered, Levi grabbed Kyle's hand and began to run.
Reaching the campsite the two boys made a mad dash toward the car. "Locked. How are we supposed to get out of here with no car?" Said Levi continuously pulling the door handle. "Well do you know where the keys are?"
"Kyle. Your brilliant! Wait here." Then about to take off toward his moms tent Levi saw the dark figure step out of the trees and into the campsite. "Oh boys where are you?" Came, what Levi assumed to be, the deranged mans voice. It was a deep scratchy voice that almost resembled nail being dragged across a chalk board. "Come out. Come out where ever you are." Falling to his knees Levi began to crawl, ever so quietly around the perimeter of camp. When he finally reached his mothers tent he slowly undid the back door zipper, cringing at the noise it made. Then going inside the tent Levi started to ransack his mothers stuff hoping to find a particular set of keys. "Ah ha! Perfect." He quietly whispered to himself, "now I just have to get back to the car." So caught up in the excitement of leaving this dreaded camp Levi didn't see his moms bag by the door as he was quickly leaving the tent. "Ow" his loud scream echoed through the night, alerting everyone of his presence. "I found you now boy" startled Levi turned around just in time to see a dark silhouette advancing upon him. "G-Get away from me," Levi stuttered, "I'm warning you."
"About what. What's a little thing like you gonna do to a big guy like me."
BANG!
Kyle had snuck up behind the man advancing on Levi and hit him with a frying pan that had been left out on a nearby table. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine. But right now all I want to do is go home."
After driving away from the camp grounds, Levi and Kyle found the nearest police station and reported everything that they saw. Then after the boys were brought back to there home town the police officer assigned to the case drove over to the camp grounds the two boys described. But after searching the entire camp one question still remains. "Who's the killer?"
