"You will be prepared for war." Jasper kept those words on repeat in her mind. What could she have meant? What war? She sighed as she stood back up from the cot and kneeled in front of the air vent once again. Hiding the last screw in her pocket with the others, she slowly pulled the small door-like opening from its place. It was pitch black as far as she could see. With a soft groan of frustration, she began to crawl into the 'black hole of mystery'.
After about half an hour of crawling through the claustrophobic hole that never even slightly became lighter, she decided to go back. She tried to turn and hit her head on the side. A loud thunder-like sound vibrated off the walls of the vent as she cradled her head in her hands until she felt like she could move without nausea waving over her. She tried once again to turn around, being more careful then the last time. Once she had successfully turned the opposite direction, she was faced with a four-way cross. Which way do I go..? She thought looking down each direction. It was all black but she could tell there were no walls on both sides of her, nor in front, because it was a slightly lighter shade of black. Deciding to go straight, she moved her palm forward, only to hear a loud creaking noise from the movement. She put a small amount of weight on it to see if it would hold. Seeing it would, she moved her other palm forward to receive a much louder thunderous roar from the metal.
A small gasp escaped her lips as the vent shook before falling to the floor with a large clatter. As it fell, her head hit the top and she cried out in pain. Her small shaking hands slipped from the other part of the vent and she came tumbling to the floor. With a loud thud she collided with the white marble tile, her head once again hitting hard. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her as she lifted her head slightly.
She saw people in white rushing towards her, some of the younger ones that had been taken only years after her group had been. These young ones had not experienced their Time yet, not until they reached the age of nineteen. Just before she saw who else was coming, the edges of her vision went black. Soon enough, the darkness consumed her and she fell unconscious.
Jasper jolted into a sitting position, gasping for air. Her eyes flew open and searched frantically. She lay in her cell on the cot. Turning to the vent, she saw it was sealed closed with adhesive. She groaned and swung her legs over the side of the small cot. She looked around to see she was alone. Standing on shaky legs, she almost fell to the floor but leaned against the wall to hold up.
Just then, the large stone door slid open and a dark, blurry, figure emerged from the hallway outside. It was a man. He stuck something in the door to jam it so it would stay open. Jasper watched in horror, who are you,.? She wanted to ask but nothing came out. Before she knew what had happened, he scooped her up in his arms and carried her out of the cell. "Relax, I'm getting you out of here," he whispered so she'd stay quiet, and she did.
Left, left, right, left, straight, right, left. She lost count after a while. Seeing how tired he was, she whispered, "I can walk you know," and he nodded and set her down. They began to run down various hallways until Jasper heard footsteps behind them. He stopped and turned around.
"You again?!"
Jasper bit her lip and whipped her head around, locking eyes with the once handsome green-eyed man who had thrown her in her cell earlier. His heels clicked against the perfectly polished, white marble tiles as he is joined by a group of guards chasing them.
"Wow, I'm surprised he's the one to lead the group of goons this time" the boy next to her chuckles before pulling her along down the hallway. They run down a series of corridors with the guards right behind them.

Today's the usual cat-and-mouse game, and, like always, he was always one very large step ahead of the men who are supposed to protect the place. To be honest, I think they're doing a very lousy job. At least a hundred steroid-filled grown men are employed as guards, but none of them can seem to catch a nineteen-year-old boy.
He gasps as he finds himself nearly slamming into the corner of the wall. He skids to an immediate stop. He turned to Jasper, who wasn't there anymore. He shook his head and cursed under his breath. Of course they got her... This is what Father was talking about when he said I let my mind wander far too often. He had to bring her back. He turned and saw the green-eyed man holding her to him with a gun to her temple. Jasper bit his thumb, he yelped and let her go. She began to run again, they gained a few feet on the group when the usual group of guards who think they're being clever by coming at him from a different direction round the corner to his left. Jasper and the boy were suddenly surrounded on both sides, but he wasn't worried. Fear shown in her eyes, though. Jasper was completely terrified and it was obvious.
"Aren't you getting tired of this, Gaige?" The green-eyed commander grunts as the two groups of guards close in on them.
"Aren't you getting too old for this?" Gaige rebukes tilting his head toward him.
A low growl resounds from his throat as the men running towards them gets closer. He yawns, as if bored,"now, if you gentlemen will excuse me."
Just as the commander lunges forward to grab his arm, he takes off sprinting toward the guards running after him. Their eyes widen in alarm as he charges full force at them, but they keep racing down the corridor. He let go of Jasper's hand indicating to follow his lead. Just as he was about to slam into one of them, he drops to the freshly waxed floor and skid between their legs, meanwhile shouting mockingly, "pardon me! Excuse me!"
The men don't know what hit them; he hears boots screech to an abrupt stop after he hops back up to his feet. He saw Jasper had succeeded as well, with a smile he grabbed her hand once again and started running. He even heard a few of the guards tumble to the floor as they slam into each other in surprise.
Gaige resisted the urge to turn and laugh at them. Seeing the guards fall over each other like small children on an ice rink always drew a chuckle out of him. He didn't look back as they took a few sharp lefts and rights to shake the guards off, and finally, they reach an open window. It seems I'm going to win that bet after all. He thought.
"C'mon, Jasper, I'll explain everything once we get out of here," he pulled her to the window. "I don't know about this..." Jasper whispered in fear.
"Jump, I'll catch you. You have to trust me."
And with that, he jumped off the ledge of the window into the darkness.
