I wake up to a shoe being thrown in my face. My roommate is standing in the doorway with her hands on her hips giving me her infamous "I'm tired of your shit" look. She points to the alarm clock in the corner, so I turn my head to look at it. It's only 8:30 am. Why is she waking me up at such an ungodly hour? It's not like I have anything to do!
"Why, dear Nicole, are you waking me up?" I ask as I sit up and scratch my head.
"We have class dumbass!" She throws her hands in the air and rolls her eyes. So dramatic.
"You do. My first class isn't until three. It's Tuesday. I only have one class love."
"Oh fuck. I'm sorry Kit Kat."
"It's alright Wombat. Just go to class and let me go back to sleep."
"Kk. I'll see ya later."
"Later babe."
Nicky walks out and turns the light off. I sigh and lay down before pulling the covers over my head. The sun is so damn bright this morning. It's making it really hard to sleep. Dammit Nicky! Always having to wake me up at the wrong times.
"Fuck it." I mumble as I crawl out of bed.
I decide to go to the coffee shop. It's within walking distance, so I won't have to drive anywhere, which is a good thing because I'm so tired that I can't see straight. Why, oh why, did I stay up until five this morning? Oh. That's right. I was reading gay fan fiction because I love it.
The barista smiles and waves at me as I walk through the door. She runs over to the register to take my order. Rumor has it that she has a huge crush on me, but I'm not really sure. Although she does follow me everywhere, always wants to be my partner in class, always wants to study with me, and always comments about how good I look. I'm not sure if she wants to date me or have a kinky one night stand to be honest.
"You're looking extra beautiful today, Cutie." She winks and bends over the counter, exposing the top of her huge breasts.
"Thanks. I'll have my usual please."
"Anything for you babe!"
I look around as she takes my money and starts making my coffee. It's really quiet in here today. Maybe it's because none of the high school kids are here. They had to go back to hell... I mean "school" today. Most of them are probably sipping coffee and trying to stay awake during their boring ass classes. As Rachel hands me my coffee, I recognize one girl sitting the the corner booth, hiding behind a newspaper.
"Could you be anymore cliché, Roni?" I ask as I sit across from her.
"What do you mean?" She lowers the newspaper and pouts.
"Coffee shop. Corner booth. Hiding behind a newspaper because someone you know walked in and you're ditching class and really don't want to be caught. Come on, Roni. I almost expect the director to yell 'cut' at any minute."
"Ugh! You're right. Please don't tell Nicky. She'd murder me in my sleep! She's already pissed off at me."
"It's Nicky. She's pissed off at everyone. Hell, she threw a shoe at my face to wake me up for a class that I don't have."
"Ouch. Sorry about that."
"It's fine. Anyway, why are you ditching school?"
"I'm not actually ditching. I was suspended, but I made a deal with the Principal and he promised not to tell my parents. So I can't be at home, but I can't be at school. Honestly I don't know what to do right now."
"Why were you suspended?"
"It's not important."
"Whatever you say. Let's go back to my place. Nicky is in class til five and I don't have class until three. We can just hang out and when I have to go to class you can waltz on home."
"Works for me."
"Let's go then!"
Veronica and I stand up, grab our drinks, and start the walk back to campus. We're careful to avoid any of Nicky's friends. If she found out about Roni's suspension, she'd flip. If Roni's parents find out, they'll send her off to military school to teach her a lesson. I like Roni, having her go away because of a silly suspension would not be good. For me or her.
"We made it!"
I lock the door and watch Roni flop down on my bed. She grabs my stuffed animal and cuddles him before looking at me with the cutest face I've ever seen. I jump on the bed next to her and lay down. We both stare at the ceiling for a long time. Well, it feels like a long time, but when I look at the clock I realize it's only been two minutes.
"What do you wanna do?" I ask as I look at Veronica.
"Get really really drunk."
"Why? You're too young for that."
"Oh really? You were thirteen when you first started drinking! I remember because you and Nicky snuck down to the wine cellar and drank down there before quickly passing out. Mom and Dad didn't find you, but only because I said Nicky walked you home and decided to spend the night rather than walk home alone. Don't, tell me I'm too young."
"I hate when you're right, but I could get in a lot of trouble if I let you drink."
"Who's going to find out? Nicky just texted me that she's going home for the night because she's having a really bad day, your RA never checks on you, you have food in here so we wouldn't have to go out, and I don't have to be home because I told my parents I was going to Claire's house after school and spending the night. Come on Katelyn. One night won't hurt."
"Okay, okay, fine. But only because I really need a drink too. That and I really don't want to go to class today. Break was not long enough, at all."
"I agree, that's why I got myself suspended on the last day before break."
"Seriously?"
"Of course not! I didn't mean to get suspended."
"Alrighty then."
I open the door to my mini fridge, aka the alcohol fridge, and look at Roni. "So what you feel like drinking babe?"
