Swimming Towards Stars

Years Later

"I won't let you down, (Name)-Chan! This expedition will be successful! You just watch"

You were so proud of him, Nagisa worked his butt of through college, and all those lonely years when he was barely home because of his training. But you believed in him, you wanted all his dreams to come true, and they did, with time. It was quite a while ago, a year in fact, you were only a few days pregnant when he was finally approved for interstellar travel. Nagisa was an astronaut. Nobody expected that, especially after he quit swim team because making it to professional was "too ambiguous" in his words. And here he was, literally leaving the Earth to explore something strange researchers found around Venus. But that would be over a year long journey. Over 200 days just traveling there and back. You were scared, in so many ways, but you supported his dream.

"Come back in one piece," you forced a smile.
"Don't worry, space travel has become so much more safe with new technology," he reassured.
"I know." You smiled and kissed his lips again. You were going to miss this. It was only for a while, you reminded yourself. But a lot was going to happen while he was gone...which you should probably tell him..

But how?

You looked up, "hey, Nagisa, you love me right?" He turned to you quickly, "of course I do! Why would you doubt me?" You gulped, "well, I....I mean, this isn't a good time, I know, you're leaving next week, and you won't be back for over a year, if you even make it back safely, and so many things could happen..."

He grabbed your hand to make you stop rambling. "(Name). What's wrong?"

"Nagisa, I-" you started, looking down, "I know this is a bad time, were still pretty young and, I mean you're leaving for over a year. So much could happen in that amount of time, let alone what could happen if something went wrong, I don't know what would happen if-"

"(Name)," he interrupted, "what is it?"

You took a deep breath. "Nagisa, I'm pregnant."

He was taken back, more so shocked than angry, which you hoped was a good thing. He paused, ruffled his hair a little then pulled something out of his jacket pocket. "I guess..." he murmured, "It's time for this." He took your hand gently, and pulled you near.

"(Name)," he spoke softly, opening a box to reveal a ring, "would you marry me?"

Needless to say, you were both married a week after he returned from the expedition. Before Nagisa left, you two made a bet on what the baby's sex was going to be. You thought a girl, Nagisa was sure it was a boy. Much to your pleasure, it was a girl.

"You finally won a bet between us, huh, (Name)?"

Nagisa, you idiot.
