The night was cold, freezing, even. The wind blew through the crisp winter air. Snow was soon to come. I glanced at the puddle in front of me, a ripple of moon reflected. Full moon. Not yet midnight, I stood up from my lonely spot on the pavement. The street lamps guided an unrecognisable way, I just followed. Why should I care about where I was going? All is lost, and nothing changes that. Not even me. And I'm a monster.
I ended up outside a forest. The trees danced slowly to the rhythmic music of the wind. I started walking making my way through the labyrinth of trees and thorns and bushes. 3 minutes till midnight. I won't let it happen to me. It can't. It won't.
Oh but it will.
Her words replayed in my head.
Your sixteenth. That's when you'll change. And you can't stop it, you're stuck like that. Or, Blake, you die. Death is always an option, even when you haven't got a choice.
Some "sweet sixteenth". So I started to run. Run away from the world. Reality. Life. Run away from myself.
It felt good. The cool breeze against my face. My heart pumping so loud in my chest it Hurt. My mind clear and empty. I laughed and carried on running. I didn't stop once to catch my breath. I could die like this, at least I'll die happy, I thought to myself, At least I'll die human.I checked my watch again. Enjoy the human life while you can. 1 minute left. It was like knowing a loved one was to die, and you're hopeless, just there watching. I was scared, terrified. What would happen? How would it happen? Why me?
Because you were born into it
And that's when I felt it. I was changing. My shoulders began to bulge, I heard the malicious sounds of bones cracking.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
I screamed into the sky as my legs grew longer and bones were moved. It was pure agony, and I couldn't help it. My nails grew into talons, razor sharp, enough to kill. Screaming still, I was turning. Bristle like hair sprouted throughout my whole body. I started howling. No. No no no no. This - this, it can't be happening. I howled to the moon. But the worst part - it felt good.By 'it felt good' I mean it felt like a huge weight had been taken off my shoulders - like I was free, letting myself go a bit. So, I ran. I ran faster then ever, the trees all a blur. I wasn't a wolf. I was part human right? Werewolf.
I ran in my new changed form as a wolf. I ran to Sienna's house. Howled outside her room. I saw her laugh as her blonde hair fell from her head. She did a little human howl. I motioned with my head for her to come down, so she came. When she got out the door she knelt down and stroked my fur. That's when she started turning. Not as brutally as I did, she was practised. She had done it before. I think the more you do it, the more swift you are at it. Still beautiful as a wolf. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. I was enjoying myself. She nuzzled me and we started running. And we ran off into the darkness.
