I Hear My Dog Talk

It started out normal. Well, most adventures do. This one began with me, Samantha Frey(commonly referred to as Sandy), walking my dog one cold December morning.
To be more accurate, Laddie, my dog, was walking me. You see, it isn't so easy to control a 130 pound Irish Wolfhound, especially my 130 pound Irish Wolfhound. Usually my walks are spent yanking his head out of a trashcan, or hauling him off of a poor, unfortunate person who happened to have a yummy face. Yes, my dog likes to stand on his hind legs and lick faces. With most dogs this is cute, but not when your dog stands close to seven feet tall on his hind legs. Look it up, I'm not lying.
This walk went pretty well. Laddie only made me hit a handful of hard objects, and only one of them was human. We were careening along at what I later estimate to be around 20 mph. Not too bad. What was bad, was when he decided to come to a screeching halt. I, naturally, tripped over his large body and fell on my face.
Ow.
When I picked myself up off the ground and rubbed the dirt now implanted in my face, I looked to see why he had stopped. Usually it's for food or another animal, but this time I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. So I continued on. Or tried to anyway. Laddie's butt was still firmly planted in the ground, long tail wagging. He lurched to his feet suddenly and dragged me off into an alleyway. Funny, I never remembered an alley being here. I stuck close to Laddie, who for once wasn't running. Every shadow reminded me of those stories on the news about small children getting killed while taking a shortcut home, and soon I was pressed firmly against Laddie's side.
A soft light shone up ahead, and I unwillingly followed it. I felt like a moth and a lantern, unable to resist the pull of the light. When I rounded the corner I was met head on with something entirely unsuspected.
It was a sphere of light, hovering a few inches from the pavement. Wait...not from the pavement. There was no pavement! Where the street should have been there was an open field, grass covering the entire place. Where the street corner was usually positioned, a huge oak resided, and instead of a crossing guard there was a statue of a man wearing animal furs. I decided to steer clear of that.
I noticed several other spheres of light placed at random in the field. I also caught a glimpse of a kind of fence surrounding the grassy landscape, it looked to be made of a smoke like substance. "Where am I?" I murmered, more to myself.
"I dunno, but it smells weird." I whirled around, surprised. "Who said that?" I asked, but all I saw was Laddie.
"Who do you think? The tree?" I gasped in surprise. Laddie's mouth had formed these words. What's as going on? Was this a dream?
"You...you...you...YOU TALK! "
Laddie seemed almost as surprised as I was. "You can understand me?!" He barked, going cross eyed to look at his muzzle. "Cool!"
I sat down hard, trying to process the strange turn of events. "Okay, no biggie Sandy. Your dog can talk, you found a strange alleyway, and now are sitting in a field. I must be going insane!" I took another look around me, this time focusing more on the strange balls of light dotting the landscape. I walked up to the nearest one, which had been the first I had seen. On its smooth surface I could make out a strange kind of writing, one I had never before seen. I don't know what it said, but it was engraved into the surface of the glowing circle.
Against my better judgment I felt my fingers stretching towards the bright sphere. Without even a thought I touched its surface. For about a half a second I felt a warmth flood my senses, energizing my entire body. Then I was thrown backwards. My ears rung, unable to hear properly. I faintly distinguished the barking of a dog before my vision faded.
A/N:
Okay... this story is just a test of a different writing style. No, it does not sound different from my usual writing style, mostly because I failed. I HAVE NO THANKS TO ANYONE!! ONLY MYSELF SO PROUD! Yeah...it was a rough hour or two. Read and vote if you liked it!
