jimin stared above the ocean floor, in awe of the sights around him. he watched as the large, barnacle encrusted being made its way across the ocean. it definitely wasn't a whale, because it wouldn't say a word to jimin, and whales were rather talkative. they were extremely proud of their whale song, constantly singing and spouting water about. this one was white and brown on the bottom, and was spouting extremely loud, unfamiliar music.

it was nothing like the elegant music of the swans, or the reeds by the bay of the ocean. it was extremely loud, unpleasant, with no sense of beauty or grace. He swam up to the great being, before slamming it with his tail fin.

"shut up with that loud music! if you can even call it that!" he shouted up at the white being. he banged and banged the bottom side of the animal, but it wouldn't budge, even respond with a word. he remembered the old lessons he had when he was a mere guppy. his aqua studies teacher had talked about great, silent, and wooden beings encrusted with barnacles and resembled whales, but these beings were greatly passed on as fiction in aqua.

jimin had believed in them though. jimin had believed in every word that was said about the great being. the fresh-water merpeople had called them "sheep" when they traveled above their realms, though they were considerably smaller. still recognizable as a "sheep" despite their size. for jimin, these sheep were proof of a sea above the water.

there were tales of mermen who went above the water and felt a burning sensation before their dead bodies fell to the depths of the ocean. there were tales of black ooze that made its way through the oceans, suffocating the merpeople and fish of that region. this shook fear in all of aqua, making most adventurers scared to even put their hand above the surface.

jimin was different from all those adventurers. rather than looking for fame and fortune in the above the world, jimin genuinely wanted to see what was up there. what were humans? were they friendly? were they the savage monsters that the aqua-media portrayed them as? he longed to know, it had been his passion since he was a child.

jimin swam towards the no-swim zone. the area the water had grown scarce, and the sand that was at the bottom of the sea became more common. he stayed at the edge of the border, and popped his hand out of the water. his whole arm, shoulder, it wasn't long before he was fully out of the water...

...and in the land above the sea.
