Katie and I crumbled to the floor, panting from exhaustion.
The cyclone of cloud vapour raged behind us, cars and taxi's flying into the air. Lamp posts were torn from the sidewalks. People were running into different shops and apartment buildings, trying to avoid being in the middle of the storm. Several of the buildings had huge cracks forming on their sides. Every single building window was smashed beyond repair, doors were ripped to shreds and pieces of the tarmac road were being torn, like clumps of gooey dough.
I pushed myself to my feet and grabbed Katie by the shoulders. "We need to get out of here!" I yelled, every word making my throat sore.
She got to her feet and we started running down the street. Several people gawped at us, like they were amazed that we were still alive, even though our clothes were torn in places. No one even bothered to stop us, since they were too afraid to go out into the open storm.
"Here!" Katie tossed me her IPhone. "It's calling Chiron! Use it!"
I raised the phone to my ear. Chiron's voice shouted into the phone. "Katie? Is that you?"
"No you idiot!" I shouted into the phone. "It's me – Marcus! Are you outside the school?"
"Yes," the centaur responded. "Are you in the middle of the storm?"
I sighed in frustration, thinking how the hell Chiron could be so dense. "Chiron, I caused the hurricane to appear! Katie and I are running from it right now. Chloe and Jake stayed behind to fight the Whirlwind's, while they told us to run. You've got to get the school ready! They're going to come over to you!"
"We're already prepared," Chiron replied. "They won't get past us."
"Then good luck!" I turned off the phone.
"Where do we go now?" Katie panted as we continued to run down the street.
"I don't know," I answered. "Just keep running."
"I can't," she gasped. "I...need to...stop for a... minute..."
I rolled my eyes. "Okay, we'll stop."
She stopped running and limped over to the side of one of the shops, placing her hand on the window and breathing large gulps of air. Her clothes were drenched in sweat.
I looked down the street, which was easy for me because of my improved eyesight. Through the thick density of fog, there was nothing but cars and more buildings. No sign of trouble.
I walked over to Katie and leaned against the window, holding my sword in my hand. "We've probably got five minutes before we have company."
"I know," Katie panted. She looked at me in shock. "First, I find out that you are invulnerable in a battle and now I've found out that you can summon hurricane's equal to an F–six tornado. You're full of surprises. You know that, right?"
"Yeah, I get that a lot," I sighed. I glanced down the street. "I can summon storms with no problems, but they can get out of control. When controlling water, there's no problem. But since I'm the heir to the Hurricane Throne, I tend to use my powers over the storms most of the time."
Katie frowned. "Did you know you were the heir to the Throne?"
I shook my head adamantly. "No, I didn't. Proculus erased that memory from my head when I was still in his prison." I raised my wrist, the tattoo shining on the skin. "But now I've got this as proof. Every single soldier from Cyclone City is hunting Chloe and me and they don't even know that I'm the heir."
I checked the time on the phone. "Time's up. Let's get out of here and find a place to hide."
Katie nodded and followed me down the street.
I only walked ten metre's when a shrieking noise filled my head. I placed my hands on my head, grunting in pain. My head felt as if someone was whacking my brain with a socket wrench. I dropped to my knees, where I yelled through gritted teeth.
"Marcus!" Katie placed a hand on my back. "What is it? What's wrong?"
"What's that noise?!" I screamed loudly. "Make it stop!"
What was that noise? The endless noise of what sounds like metal being scraped against metal, mixed with the sound of howling wolves.
The ringing in my ears lessoned, until it became a dull ache behind my eyes. I looked at the road and right in front of me – like it was there all along – was a trail of blue mist that lit up the centre of the street, almost like a ghostly version of Hansel and Gretel, where the two kids left a trail of breadcrumbs to find their way home. This was completely different because when I waved my hand through it, it was like my hand had suddenly been placed inside a block of ice, because it was freezing
"He's close," I whispered. I looked at Katie. "He's close."
"What do you mean 'He's close'?" Katie yelled over the noise of the wind.
"My father is around here on this street," I told her. "Whenever I'm near him, I always get this feeling, like a tremor in my spine. He's around here somewhere."
"But why were you acting like you were in pain?" Katie asked, worry in her voice.
I continued to stare at the trail of blue mist. "Because he's in pain and I can sense it." I started to walk forwards.
"Where are you going?" Katie placed a hand on my chest.
I didn't speak. I continued to walk forward, with the daughter of Demeter close behind me, while I followed the thin line of clear mist.
Chloe! I shouted in my head. Can you hear me? I'm close to dad! If you can hear me, Katie and I are on Flower Street, 17 minutes away from where you and Jake are! Meet us there!
I felt her presence in my mind. Okay! We managed to get away from the Hunter's, but Kane got away. I don't know where he is! Jake thinks Kane is after you and Katie. Be careful!
Thanks for the warning. Hurry! I thought back to her.
I looked at Katie. "Come on."
We ran down the street.
