My mom bought me this journal (I refuse to call it a diary) for my seventeenth birthday. She told me to write in it everyday. Mom also claims to have read somewhere that writing down what happened that day helps your memory improve. I mean, I guess it could, but you could say I'm a bit skeptical.

Anyways. I had no idea really of what to write about so Mom (the journal guru, apparently) told me to start off simple.

Where do I live? Calgary, Canada.

Do I have any siblings? No.

What are my parents' names? The all-knowing journal expert is Renée Johnson, married to Robert Johnson.

What is my name? Maeve Johnson. No middle name. (When I'm eighteen I want to get one legally, though. I have a list somewhere that I should put in here of the ones I'm considering).

What do I look like? Deep caramel skin, shoulder-length curly black hair, hazel eyes, some freckles, athletic build. Similar to my dad.

What are my favourite pastime activities? Sports. I love rugby and track. Softball is pretty fun, too.

Who are your best friends? Sarah Samberg (we met in our first semester of grade 10 when we had gym together, been best friends ever since), O.J. (stands for Octavia Jacobsen, she is part of almost every girl's sports team our school offers), and Kayla Bach (the craziest, funniest chick you'll ever meet).

I'm not sure what other questions to ask myself. I think those seven are good. More than five and less than ten, a good number.

Mom says that times are going to get hard again. We just got out of a depression two years ago, but she thinks something worse is coming our way. Usually my parents are pretty reasonable people, so it kind of scares me to catch them whispering late at night in the kitchen and coming up with an emergency plan just in case.

I don't want anything to change. I like my life just the way it is, thank you very much; great friends, excellent grades, just enough free time to watch my favourite shows on Netflix and still balance my social and school lives...

Well, my hyperactive imagination is kicking in - too many zombie shows lately - and now I'm wondering how the world will end. If it's the undead, I'm prepared. If it's a flu or virus that just wipes out the population, my luck will probably have it I'm one of the first to go.

On that positive note, I'm going to bed.

I hope you're enjoying it so far! I plan on updating this once a week...not sure which day, though. Any ideas?

And just as a reminder -- I always appreciate some constructive criticism on my writing, and it's fun to read your reactions and interesting opinions, so comment away!

(P.s. you should click/tap on that little star down there, it would be much appreciated ;) )
