"I wanna be free, I wanna just live."
-Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis, "White Walls"
Sarafina and I sit on my bed on a Tuesday afternoon. The Book of Shadows rests on her lap. We are going over what she has learned about Wicca.
"I read through the Wicca Rede," She says. "I used to think witchcraft was all about cursing people and hurting people with magick. Apparently, you aren't allowed to do that."
"That's right," I say, "But you can do anything else, as long as it doesn't harm anyone."
"Nice!" Sarafina says excitedly. "Can we cast a spell now?"
"Not quite yet," I reply. "I need you to do an exercise first."
I walk over to my altar, and light a cyan candle. I move the candle toward the center of my altar, so that it faces Sarafina. "Sarafina, have you ever meditated?" I ask.
"Yeah," She replies. "I used to take meditation classes in my old hometown, actually."
"Great," I say. "You should be a natural, then. I need you to relax your body, and stare into the flame of this beautiful blue candle. Think of nothing else, but the flame and the candle. Block me out. Block the room out. Just relax. Meditate with the candle. Then, you should find your calling."
Sarafina nods. She sits up straight, and stares intently at the candle. Sarafina seems like such a wild girl. She probably gets distracted a lot, I think. I doubt she will be able to meditate, despite what she says.
Oddly enough, Sarafina surprises me. She continues to do nothing but stare at the candle for another 20 minutes. Then, she emerges from her meditative state. Her astral body becomes aligned with her physical body. "I saw myself as a nurse on a battlefield. I was using my powers to heal wounded soldiers," she informs me.
"That's wonderful!" I say. I blow out the candle.
"So, what does all that mean?" She asks.
"You are meant to be a spiritual healer. You will have to learn how to use your abilities to heal people with your energy," I say.
"Energy? Like, electricity?" She asks.
"No, like your spiritual being," I say. "Do you see that purple light around me?"
"No?" Says Sarafina, confused as ever. "I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you high?"
"Rub your forehead," I instruct her. "Do you see it now?"
"Oh, my God!" She exclaims. "I see it, I see it!"
"That's great," I say. "That is called my aura. My aura is composed of my energy. I can use my energy to do many things, like spell casting and healing. But I have to channel it."
"Channel it? How do I do that?" Sarafina asks.
"Just visualize it healing whatever wound you may have. It works, trust me," I say.
"I'm having period cramps right now. Will my aura help with them?" She asks.
I nod. "Just envision your energy relaxing and healing your uterus. Everything will be okay."
Sarafina closes her eyes. She puts her hands on her belly, and breathes deeply. She seems completely at peace in her current situation.
10 minutes later, she takes her hands off her belly. "Wow," she says. "It doesn't hurt anymore."
"See! I told you you're a healer!" I say. "Now, you can use that magick, the magick that stems from your inner spirit and aura, to heal other people."
