Avianna POV

I'm not a morning person. I can tell you that for sure.

I hate waking up for school. Whats the point of starting school so early if everyone is nearly half dead? Isn't the whole point of going to school to learn something? How are we supposed to learn anything if we cant keep our fucking eyes open?

I hate everyone.

I'm so tired I knew I should have gone to sleep earlier last night. Why do I always do this to myself?

After five minutes of just laying in bed watching the top of my fan spin in slow circles I finally get the courage to get up. As I roll out of bed, every step I take gets me closer to my closet. I don't know why but I really loath closets, or should I say. My closet. I never seem to have any clothes. I always feel like I'm wearing the same thing over, and over again. All the other girls at school seem to have endless clothes, always a different outfit everyday. And then there's me. A couple of pants and a few t-shirts, couple flannels, and some jackets. That is whats inside my depressing closet.

After rummaging through my closet I manage to pick out a black pair jeans with a few cuts around the knee area. A faded black shirt with a few navy blue prints splattered across it and my all time favorite flannel. A dark forest green and black flannel with lines going up, down, and across it. Love. Once everything is on and fitted I slide myself over to where my bed lies and search for my black high tops, while also grabbing a pair of clean socks on the way.

After looking a bit decent in the mirror I go over to my dresser and grab the tube of black mascara and apply a couple coats of it on my upper and lower lashes.

Like I said I'm not really a morning person so I just decide on putting my hair up in a pony tail and head downstairs.

"Avi are you hungry? I made pancakes this morning!" my mom tells me as I walk into the kitchen.

Why is she always in a good mode this early in the morning. Maybe its because she doesn't have to deal with all the assholes I have to deal with at school.

"Oh I'm starving!" I respond back.

My mom has been so strong ever since my dad pasted away a couple year ago. I was 5 at the time. Oh how I miss him.  Mom and I would always visit him regularly every time we got the chance to.

"Good morning how are my ladies on this fine morning?" says Rick as he walks in with a huge smile that can be seen from miles away.  He makes his way towards my mom and plants a kiss right above her nose. Aw.

Rick is my moms husband.

My stepdad.

He filled in the hole a few years ago when my dad passed.

My mom meet him at work one day, and he heard what had happened, he was heart broken by the news, and then one day mom knocks at my door and tells me she met a new fellow and that they were going to marry.  Not going to lie I was quite sad, but I just wanted to see my mom happy again and I could see that Rick really cared about her so I gave in.  Next thing you know we were on a vacation to the Bahamas.

Ah good ol' times.

"Good" I say

"Get a goodnight sleep?"

"Oh yeah. Wide awake" I lie not knowing I only slept for five hours last night.

"Jane, I just got off the phone with James"

James was Ricks boss.  James was an entrepreneur he owned the finest restaurants this city could have.

"He has invited us to go have dinner with him and his family. This could be it. The breakthrough. He said he had good news for me"

"Well that's amazing honey!" my moms says as she places a plate of pancakes stacked in front of him.

"Will you be joining us this afternoon?" he mentions to me.

"Uh yeah of course wouldn't miss it for the world." I say while showing the last piece of pancake in my mouth.

"Well good its settled." Rick says with a smile, which makes my mom giggle.

They're so happy together. When will that happen to me?

"I'm going upstairs to brush my teeth and I'll be ready to go"

"Alright kiddo. Its almost time, don't wanna be late right?"

"Ha yeah" I laugh sarcastically hoping he didn't find that rude. I'm sorry.

I head to the bathroom quickly brush my teeth and grab my backpack that's lying on my bed, and quickly walk back down the stairs, where I see Rick and my mom exchanging kisses.

"Alright are we settled?"

"Yeah."

"Alright, well see you later tonight honey. Make sure to lock everything and turn on house alarm once you leave"

"Okay I got it, now hurry up and get going you're both going to be late" says my mom

"See you later mom" I tell her while giving her a kiss on the cheek as well. "Love you"

"Love you too sweety." she says back while giving me a tight hug goodbye and closing the door behind me as I exit the house.

Once I'm in the car, Rick is rummaging through the glove compartment looking for something.

"Whats wrong? Lost something?"

"Mmm not sure?"

"What do you mean your're not sure?" I say with a chuckle.

"Well a few mints in here, and now I cant seem to find them?"

Oh no. I should have asked who's they were first. I slowly open my smaller backpack pocket and pull out the mints.

"These?"

"Yeah. Where were they?" he says in a confused tone

"I accidentally took them the other day. I didn't think they were anyone's. I'm really sorry Rick." I really am.

"Aw its fine kiddo. You can have them"

"Are you sure?" I say worriedly I don't want to feel guilty for taking them. Especially since there not even mine.

"Yeah, but do you mind if I get a few?" he says laughingly

"Oh no they're yours anyways ha"

He opens the little mint box and pulls out a few and sticks them in the pocket of his coat.

"After school would you like me to take you to the mall so you can get something nice to wear to this dinner later?" he says with a smile

"Uh yeah, if that's not a bother?" I say back

"Oh no of course not!"

"Then yeah okay" I smile to reassure him that I'm in

The rest of the drive we sat in peaceful silence only listening to the sound of the wind creeping in through the small gap allowed by the window.

"I'll pick you up later with mom and then we can head to the mall right after sounds good?" he tells me as I unbuckle the seat belt strapped across my body.

"Yeah sounds good" I say back while leaning in and giving him a kiss on the cheek similar to the one I gave my mom before I left home.

"Alright see you after school kid" he yells through the open window of the passengers seat

"See you later" I wave goodbye as I see Rick drive down the street dropping me off in front of this so called hell of a school. Gosh I hate school so much.

I hear the first bell ring. I start to walk into the school, even though I hate this place I don't also want to walk into class with thirty pairs of eyes staring at me.

I let out a loud groan while mentally preparing myself not to slam anyone I come in contact heads against their lockers "I just hope today goes by fast."
