Plot Twist: Best Friend Edition

Prologue

I woke up at 11:00 p.m. to the sound of my iPhone ringing and vibrating continuously. I yawned and sat up scratching my eyes to have a little bit more clearer vision. I grabbed my phone from my bedside table and answered it not even looking at the name.

"Hello?" I said, my voice sounded a bit gruff.

"Mase. " A voice belonging to a girl whispered. It was soft and brittle. What the fuck? A girl who is about to cry called me at 11. I yawned for the second time.

"Who is this?" I scrunched my brows, wondering who would make a late night call.

"I-it's K-kae- Kaelynn." I paused for a moment not being able to register what was happening.

"Kaelynn?" I asked making sure if I heard it right.

"I-it's me Mase. K-kaelynn Brooke. "

My eyes widened in surprise. Suddenly I was wide awake. It has been a long time since I talked to Kaelynn. Probably 3 years or so. God, I missed her so much.

"Oh boy Kaelynn. How are you?" I said. "How are you and Andrew doing?" Saying that part hurt me inside.

Suddenly there was a loud sniffle.

"T-That's why I-I called you *sniff* Mase." She was barely able to speak.

"Why what happened?" I was getting more and more worried by the second.

I suddenly heard Kaelynn burst into tears.

"Hey, hey Kaelynn."

She was still crying. I could tell.

"Kaelynn." I said trying to get her attention. I kept on calling her until I knew she was listening. I still heard crying noises but as long as she's listening it's okay. "I know it's not easy to calm down because I know it hurts but do me a favor and take deep breaths. "

She quickly obeyed and did deep breaths. This continued until she can finally manage to speak.

"Kaelynn is it alright for you to tell me what had happened?" I asked in the softest tone I can do.

"Well, " she started. "I saw Andrew with another girl. They were holding hands and kissing heavily and looking like a lovey dovey couple. I was so busy on creating my Biology project this week I didn't notice he has not messaged me. His last message was somewhere along the lines of being bored. But he didn't break up with me yet. After seeing the horrible sight earlier I decided to call him. Asking him where he was and such. He lied to me and said he was home watching a movie. I decided to call it quits and he laughed. He said he was happy being free. And that part was what had hurt me and left me awe struck. I still can't get over what he said. I don't know what to do. " she said, her voice being thick the entire time. After listening to her story, I couldn't help it. I was enraged by what Andrew did. I was hurt. I didn't and I will never want to see or hear Kaelynn cry. I just hate the thought of seeing such a sweet and loving girl get hurt.

"Mason are you there?" Kaelynn asked in a soft voice.

"I'm here. "

"Can I tell you something?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"Thank you. "

"For what?" I asked a bit confused.

"For listening and everything. I was able to get rid of the heavy loads on my chest because of you. I may not be totally over it but talking to you surely helped and made a difference. So thank you for that Mase. "

"Sure. " A smile made it's way to my mouth which hasn't been able to smile for a few years. "Anything for you princess. "

"Oh what the fuck Mase?" She said, now giggling. "So how have you been?" She asked.

"Oh," and we talked for hours and told stories to each other. Trying to catch up on each other. Telling tales we experienced. Saying corny and horrible jokes all night long. Until she fell asleep talking to me.

"Kaelynn?" I asked. There was no reply. Instead there was a soft snore. I laughed a bit and hung up.

I smiled like an idiot for 5 minutes. I looked at clock on my bedside table. It was already 1:30. Oh crap. 6 hours of sleep left. I lied back down on my blue king sized bed, a goofy smile still written all over my face. I can't believe I finally talked to her again. It has been 3 years and boy did I miss Kaelynn Brooke.
