"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT GOING TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY?!" Levy exclaimed, completely in shock.
Lucy rolled her eyes at her friend being dramatic and slammed her locker shut. "I mean exactly what I mean. I'm not going to the party." The blonde ignored Levy, whose jaw was dropped to the floor, and walked down the end of the hallway.
Levy chased after Lucy. "But Lucy!" The blunette called, "You always go to the party!"
"Yeah, well this year I'm not." Lucy said. "Look, just drop it, alright? We're going to be late for class." Without waiting for Levy's reply, Lucy had walked off towards the chemistry lab before the bell rang.
The blunette trailed behind her best friend.
Something wasn't right.
..
..
"Is everyone excited for the party tonight?!" Cana shouted as soon as everyone took their seats in the usual sport in the cafeteria.
"Hell yes!" Gray cheered.
"Nope." Levy said, "Because Lucy's not going."
"WHAT?!"
All eyes turned to Lucy, the said-teen winced at everyone's loudness. "It's not a big deal or anything." She mumbled, stirring her vegetables in a small circle.
"Why aren't you going?"
Lucy went to open her mouth-
"Hey guys what's going on!"
And she immediately closed it when she saw them hand in hand. Natsu walked towards the table grinning widely, with Lisanna's hand in his. Lisanna had a small smile on her face. The two looked cute, and it made Lucy sick.
Don't get her wrong, Natsu is her best friend and she loved when he was happy. Same with Lisanna. Lisanna was a close friend; and Lucy did, in a way, paired the two together. But she didn't think that they would end up dating.
He took his normal spot and sat next to Lucy, thighs touching.
It hurt.
Not because she was losing her friends.
But because she liked Natsu as well.
Lucy wished that was her holding his hand.
"Lucy's not going to the party tonight." Erza said, arms crossed over her chest with a large frown.
"What?!" Once again, Lucy winced when Natsu decided to shout in her ear. "What do you mean you're not going?! You go every year, Luce!"
Lucy snapped, eyes flashing, "Well this year I'm not, so deal with it!"
The silenced the whole table, all of them holding their own expression. Lucy slammed her tray down and stormed out of the cafeteria, not wanting to talk to anyone. Why couldn't they just accept that she wasn't going.
Why couldn't she just accept that Natsu and Lisanna were together?
Why couldn't she just accept that Natsu would never view Lucy as anything more?
It hurt.
It hurt a lot.
..
..
The day was finally over. Lucy and Levy were walking on the school's campus to head home. "Levy-Chan...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout at you.." Lucy apologized.
The blunette smiled, nudging her best friend. "It's alright, Lu-Chan. It just won't be the same without you."
Lucy smiled and nodded, thanking the heavens that Levy could be understanding.
"Just...could you tell me why you can't go?"
Lucy opened her mouth, then closed it. What could she say? That she didn't want to go to the party because Natsu and Lisanna would have to kiss under the mistletoe? Or the fact, that she didn't feel like she would enjoy the party.
Lucy decided to tell the truth, "I can't go because-"
"LUCY!"
Perfect timing from the demon himself. Natsu had caught the blonde in his vision and jogged over to the two girls. The pink-haired idiot was on his way to practice, when he saw the two about to walk off campus.
"Hey, Natsu." Levy greeted.
Natsu nodded, acknowledging the small girl and turned to stare at his best friend, who was avoiding eye contact with him.
"Luce.."
"Oh, hey, Natsu, didn't see you there." The blonde tried playing off.
Natsu frowned, Lucy looked strangely pale today. "Is everything alright?" He asked stepping closer.
"Y-yes." Lucy squeaked when he was just inches away from her face. His green eyes staring intensely into her brown ones.
His warm, calloused hand reached up and pressed flat on her forehead, which was soon followed by his forehead.
Lucy's blush covered her entire face, and Levy couldn't help but think that Lucy could have played an excellent Bob the tomato. "You're really hot." Natsu said, frowning.
Lucy pulled away harshly, as if his touched burned her. Hurt flashed across his face. "I'm fine!" She shouted at him. Her legs wobbling.
Levy eyed her friend with concerned eyes. Lucy was extremely pale, it looked like she was about to collapse, and her cheeks as red as Erza's hair. "Lucy, you don't look alright."
"I said I'm fine." The blonde snapped.
And then it happened.
Lucy lost her footing and nearly collapsed on the ground, if it wasn't for Natsu who caught her.
..
..
Lucy woke up in her bed, later. Her eyes widened, not remembering if she walked home or not.
"Natsu, dropped you off." Her father, Jude said. The blonde didn't even notice that her dad was in her room.
"Why am I here?"
"You passed out, Lucy. You have a fever. I made some soup." Jude walked across the room and placed the tray of soup and crackers in his daughter's lap.
Lucy sat up straight, and blew on the hot creamy liquid that was on her spoon.
"Get some rest dear." Jude said, "There's water on your nightstand."
"Thanks, dad." Lucy coughed when the older blond had shut the bedroom door.
"Just great." Lucy grumbled, as her friends were out partying, having the time of their lives. She was stuck in bed, sick, with no company. Her father was busy, and there was no way anyone would visit at this time.
Her phone vibrated, and she looked seeing that it was a text message.
Natsu Dragneel [6:45p.m] Hey! Are you feeling any better? I'm going to check up on you tomorrow morning! So you better be feeling well. (:
Her heart swelled, but she didn't respond. She felt like she wasn't worthy to respond. So instead, she tossed her phone on the other side of her bed, and continued to eat her soup. A nice nap after that would be really nice.
..
..
"Stop it."
"..."
"Natsu, stop it."
"..."
"Natsu, stop glaring at your phone."
"Lucy won't respond!" Natsu whined, still staring at the device in his hand.
"You're supposed to be having fun!" Cana shouted from the back, guarding the beer barrel like her life depended on it.
Lisanna pressed herself against his arm, trying to drag him where the music was. "C'mon, Natsu let's dance." She pouted cutely.
"Fine." Natsu agreed, shoving his phone back into his pocket and let his girlfriend lead him to the living room.
It seriously wasn't the same without Lucy.
