Boyfriend? Never Heard Of That Website...

Chapter 1

I sighed, opening my eyes and letting in the early morning sunshine. I'm an early riser, you see. It was the first day of freedom after finishing school and boy, was I happy. I wasn't going to go to college yet. I had decided that I would take a year or two off and I was glad that my parents had agreed. I stretched, feeling my bones crack slightly and then threw my covers off, waking myself up. I sighed again. What was I going to do, now that school was over? All of my friends were staying in seaside holiday homes or jetting off to exotic locations while I was here. Here being my house.

My parents didn't have enough money right now to do very much, so a holiday was the least of their worries. Thankfully, we had enough for our daily needs, mine being food, water and WiFi. I seriously do not know what I'd do without the Internet. I mean, you can find out anything, and do anything with just the click of the mouse. It was simply amazing.

I got up, searching from my little laptop that I had bought myself last year after saving up all my birthday and christmas money. Before that, I'd had to use the family computer, which was no use when my older brother, Oliver, would come charging into the room every so often and push me outside. I highly suspect he was looking at porn. Oli's just that type of guy. He's got the looks, the cocky attitude and has the girls falling at his feet. By the looks, I mean he's tall and slightly muscled - he has a six-pack, trust me, I've seen it often enough - with dark blonde hair and amazing aquamarine eyes. Sometimes I wish I could trade his eyes for my sea green ones. His are so bright, you could probably see them in the dark. I'm stuck with my mother's light brown hair, which happens to be naturally straight. I'm told how lucky I am for it to be straight, but I don't see the upside, it just sits there on my head and does nothing. Oli's a great brother too. We get along greatly, and sometimes it feels like he's my only best friend.

I grabbed the laptop and sat back down again on my bed, pulling the covers up to my chin. Mmm, snuggly. I turned the laptop on and waited for it to load up. I then watched a few YouTube videos for a while and checked Twitter before I got bored. You see, I wasn't a Facebook type of girl. Never liked it, never will, which explains why I don't have one. Simple. I set my laptop down carefully on the bed, not wanting to break it, the thing cost more than enough. Hmm, what to do...

I decided that Oli would be my best bet right now, considering Mum and Dad weren't even here to look after us. They had left me in Oli's 'care' and went off to work somewhere for a while. I had no idea when they were coming back and neither did they. All they were worried about was sending us money for food and to buy essential things and paying for the bills via the amazing Internet. I really didn't have to worry about much.

I tiptoed down the hall to Oli's room, hoping to jump on him and scare him. Man, that would be funny. I silently pushed his door open and, sure enough, there he was with his back to me, sleeping like a baby. I propelled myself towards him, shouting "CANNONBALL!" just before I jumped and landed on his body. There was a grunt, and an extremely girlish shriek, and I began to laugh so hard I rolled off the bed and lay in the foetal position on the floor, shaking violently with tears streaming down my face. Oli shrieked like a girl! Oli shrieked like a girl! He will never hear the end of this. "Err, Charlie?" Oli asked. That's me if you're wondering. Charlotte Thompson. No middle name.

I looked up, meeting his eyes. There was a strange glint to them, and he looked like he was about to burst out laughing but managed to keep a straight face. He tilted his head slightly to the left, as if telling me to look over there. I did. The sight my eyes met was not pretty. A girl, probably a slut at that, was lying in my brother's bed. Her hair was matted and tangled, her heavy make up streaming down her face and I'm not going to forget that patch of dried drool that was to the left of her lower lip. She scowled at me, probably annoyed that I ruined her time left with the 'Sex God' that was my brother. I stared at her in shock, then scowled right back.

"I think it's time you left," Oli started. "Err..." There was then an awkward pause. Has he forgotten her name? Bad move, Oli! Don't ever forget a girl's name. "Err... Babe. Yeah. I think it's time you left, babe." Smooth, Oli, real smooth. "Okay baby," the girl pouted. "Do you not want round two?" I make pretend gagging motions behind her back making Oli laugh a little, realise and then quickly try to cover it up with a cough. "Nah babe, I'm good. Maybe another time though?" He suggests with a charming grin. The girl tells him to call her, kisses him on the lips, gathers her stuff and then leaves the room, giving me one last scowl.

"Maybe another time though?" I mimic, in the girliest voice possible. "Hey! I do not sound like that!" Oli protested. "I bet you've got no intentions of doing anything with her ever again," I joke. "No, definitely not!" He replies, but there's something a little off with his tone. He has a strange look in his eyes, one I haven't seen before. "Besides, did you get a whiff of that morning breath?!" He laughs, and I shake off the weird feeling. He probably has a hangover after all.

"You should've seen the look on your face when you realised that she was in the bed too, priceless!" Oli chuckles, and I join in. "One more question though," I say. "Was it her that squealed or you?"

He laughs again, shaking his head. "You're for it this time," he threatens, and that's the last I hear before I take off around the house, Oli trying to catch me.

Ten minutes later, I'm out of breath and cornered like a wild animal, Oli closing in. "Please don't hurt me," I plead. "I take it all back, just don't hurt me." Oli stops, the evil grin falling off his face slightly. He nods his okay and laughs. We go to the kitchen and have Belgian chocolate waffles for breakfast, a massive change from the usual cereal. After breakfast, I groan. "Oli I'm so bored..."

"Go and do stuff on your laptop then.." He murmurs. "I have to go out for a while, but I'll be back soon."

"You're no help," I huff, leaving the kitchen and going back upstairs. I look at the laptop lying on my bed and lift it up. Sitting down with it on my knee I start to think. What to do... I think of all the websites I've ever heard of. Hang on, what was that one beginning with 'T'? Tumble? No, that's not it. I sat for ages, thinking carefully until I just decided to type 'Tumbl' into Google. I was certain that it didn't have an 'E' in it. The list of suggestions quickly came up and I scrolled down, one of them catching my eye. Tumblr. That sounded about right. I clicked on the link and was directed to the website. Yeah, this is the right website.

I clicked the 'Sign Up' button and put in my email address. Now for a username... Eventually, I decided on 'charlieloveswaffles.tumblr.com' and typed in a password. For the next three hours or so, I figured out how to use Tumblr and had my blog up and running by the afternoon. My blog was just based on me and the things I liked. Nearly everything was either about music, food, animals and funny things. It reflected my personality perfectly. I was starting to really like this Tumblr thing. I had already followed a few blogs, but they were unlikely to follow back as they were so popular. I smiled, reblogging a funny quote and then decided that I would put away my laptop for a while. I had been on it too long anyway, I didn't want to be getting square eyes. Was that even true? Can you get square eyes from looking at a screen for too long? I have no idea.

"Charlie, I'm back!" Oli called from the front door. I raced down to greet him, and also to quiz him about his long absence. 'I'll be back soon' my ass. "Where were you?" I asked. Oli shifted uncomfortably and that strange look is back in his eyes again. What's up with him? "Nothing much, just out with some friends..." He trails off, but I know he's lying. I decide to let it slip, just this once, because he obviously seems extremely uncomfortable with the whole situation. "That's nice, wanna watch a movie?" I ask, quickly changing the subject. Oli nods so enthusiastically I'm afraid his head might fall off. Was he really that nervous? "Sure," he says "Warm Bodies?" Now it's my turn to nod enthusiastically. Warm Bodies is our favourite movie. We went to see it in the cinema a week or so after it had came out, and we've been hooked ever since.

After the movie, Oli turned to me and asked what I had done all day. I told him about my Tumblr account and he rolled his eyes. "Another one for you to get hooked on, I guess?" I violently shook my head, but gave a mischievous grin after. We both knew that I would be hooked from tomorrow.
