I sighed, starting outside the window of my grandfathers beat up, pick up truck.
My hand hanging out the window to feel the warm summer breeze,
as he drove down the dirt road towards his and my grandmother's house.
Which was literally located in the middle of nowhere, the closest town as was at least a 20 minute drive away.
Which really wasn't the best place for an elderly couple to be living in.
I mean murder could could happen, and no one would hear about, after all their closest neighbours, were trees.
"So, you boys ready for an exciting summer?"
Gramp's exclaimed, trying to act excited for my younger brother Liam.
Who was sitting in the back seat playing on his Ipod.
"Ready as I'll ever be"
Liam replied nonchalantly, not bothering to look up from the screen.
Gramp's chuckled and said
"Well, you better watch out or you might be abducted by wolves"
I rolled my eyes, as gramp's nudged my arm with his elbow chuckling.
This seemed to catch Liam's interests, as he looked away from his Ipod and asked.
"Why would a wolf 'abduct' a human, gramp's?"
He shrugged and said "Why don't you ask you brother her, huh Matt?"
I glared at my grandfather, as he kept his eyes on the road.
"I was like, what 5. I didn't know what was going on in my head"
Liam raised an eyebrow looking at me skeptically, and said
"So you believed that you were 'abducted' by wolves?"
"It was one time" I shouted in frustration.
Which only made gramp's laugh harder
"More like 6 Matthew."
My brother Liam looked at me and asked
"What the hell were you on?"
I sighed and said "I don't know, okay. I was a little kid, it was probably my imagination"
Feeling the truck come to a stop, gramp's said
"Alright, I think we tortured Matthew enough"
I glanced over at him as he got out of the pick up truck and said
"You think."
Unbuckling the seatbelt, I opened the car door to be greeted by the sight of my grandma standing on the porch.
She was ageless, her salt and pepper hair was pulled back, into a messy bun.
Her brown eyes holding a sort of warmth to them.
But the best thing about her had to be the fact that she always smelt of cookies, and home.
I was pulled away from my thoughts, as she wrapped his arms around my torso.
"Welcome back Mattie"
Bringing myself to do the same I said "glad to be back"
Pulling away she held at arm's length, only to say
"You've grown so much Mattie, It seems like last summer you only came up to my hip"
She smiled at the memory, gramp's passed by carrying one of Liam's suitcases
"It's either he's growing, or your striking Delila"
He said laughing as, she shooed him off into the house.
"Now, I should leave you to unpack. dinner will be ready soon"
I nodded moving out of her grasp to grab my duffle bag from the truck.
Walking into the house it as a fairly large, with 4 bedrooms, a living room, and kitchen.
From the outside it seemed like an oversized log cabin, Gramp's said he had built the whole thing himself as a wedding present for Gran.
Pushing open the door to my room, to see nothing had changed, plopping onto my bed, I let out a sigh of relief.
I had never been a fan of change or long road trips, but then again who was.
Pulling out my phone, I glanced at the screen to see a few miss messages from my girlfriend, Sara
Ah yes, same old room, same old forest, and same old crappy connection.
How I missed this place.
