It was late, that Tuesday night. A young college student by the name of Mark was alone in his dorm, his roommate recently expelled for a crime too disgusting to describe. The poor girl was expelled as well.
Mark was on his bed, playing a video game on his computer when he heard a knock at the door. With a sigh, he got off the bunk, and opened the door.
Standing outside was a man, about his height, with green hair and sky blue eyes. This stranger was wearing a blue hoodie, skinny jeans, and orange sneakers. Who is this guy? Mark thought to himself, examining the man. The fuck is he doing here?
After a few moments of silence, the man cleared his throat. "Top o' the mornin' to ya!" He practically shouted, grinning from ear to ear with a hand extended. Mark jumped a bit in surprise, confusedly shaking the hand.
"H-Hi?"
"Oh, sorry for not introducin' myself properly. My name is Seán William McLoughlin, and I'm yer new roommate!"
"W-Well then, Seán, it's nice meeting you. I'm Mark, by the way."
"Mark....." Jack rolled his hands, visually seeking more information.
"F-Fischbach."
"That's a lovely name!... C-Can I come in now?"
Mark hadn't realised that he'd been blocking the doorway the whole time.
"Oh, sorry, yeah."
He moved aside, letting Seán step in with his bags before he shut the door.
"Are you okay sleeping bottom?"
"W-What?"
"On the bunks."
Seán slapped himself, chuckling a bit. "Of course!"
Mark chuckled a bit as well, climbing back up to his bed to continue his game. Seán huffed loudly as he lifted a bag onto his bed, shaking the bunk when it landed.
"Need some help there, Seán?"
"Yeah, that'd be great. Also, you can call me Jack."
"Alrighty, Jack."
Mark jumped off his bed, landing dangerously close to his roommate. They both stumbled back a bit, Mark apologising profusely.
"It's fine," he chuckled. "At least ya didn't squash me."

The two spent an hour or two unpacking and rearranging the furniture. After they were done, they sat together on the couch, casually chatting like they'd been friends for a lifetime and were finally catching up after several years.
"Yeah, me mum and the rest o' my family are still back in good ol' Ireland."
"Why did you want to move here?"
"Well, I guess I just wanted to experience some change for once! Ireland can get kind of borin' after a while."
"Well so can here, too."
"Really, with a guy as excitin' as you around?" Jack nudged Mark, referencing when he'd accidentally started singing 70's pop music out loud as they were moving a the desk.
"We've just met and I've already left an embarrassing impression on you."
"I think it's pretty neat."
"What?"
"Yer voice! You're an awesome singer, dude!"
Mark sat up confidently, smirking as he ran a hand through his blue fluff. "You think so?"
They both chuckled, continuing the conversation for a while.

Seán yawned, checking his watch. "WOAH THERE! It's really LATE!"
"Is 1am 'late' to you?"
"Of course! I gotta get up early for a class tomorrow!"
"What time do you have it?"
"Noon."
"Jack, buddy, I don't know how good at math you are, but that gives you 11 hours of sleep."
"I need my beauty rest. Stayin' up late doesn't get you all energised like this!"
"You make a good point. But I highly recommend waiting at least another hour. Too much sleep is bad for your health or something like that."
"Too much sleep? HA! Such a thing doesn't exist."
"Well," Mark said, standing up from the couch and stretching. "I'll be on my bed playing video games for a few more hours, feel free to join me if you want."
Seán watched Mark climb the ladder to the top before heading to his bed. He laid down, shutting his eyes to sleep.

After what felt like years of staring at his eyelids, Jack opened his eyes, blinking a bit to readjust to the light before standing up and stretching. He climbed the ladder, sitting next to his friend.
"No rest for the wicked, I see." He said with a yawn.
"Guess you couldn't sleep, huh?"
Jack shook his head, moving closer to Mark to see the screen. "Watcha playin' there?"
"It's this game called 'Subnautica'. I'm pretty sure I'm losing though."
"Yeah, you need more water. Ya need to get some salt and coral sample."
"I have the coral, but I can't find the salt."
"Try by one of the creepvine forests."
Mark proceeded to do so, acquiring what he needed before going back to his escape pod.
"Have you played this before?"
"A while ago. It's a fun game! So creepy and mysterious."
"You got that right."

After a few hours of advancing in the game and disputes about what course of action would be most appropriate, he saved the game, shutting down his laptop with a yawn. "I hate the ocean. It's terrifying."
"Yeah, but it's so cool!"
"I guess it can be." Reached over the bed railing and gently dropped his computer on the desk. "What time is it?"
"4am-ish." Jack said with a yawn. "I think I'm gonna go to bed now."
"Me too. It was nice meeting you today, though."
"Right back at ya! I'm glad that I got stuck with someone cool rather than a 'fuckboy.'"
"Same here."
"Well," Seán said, climbing down the ladder. "I'll see ya in the mornin'! Goodnight, Marky!"
"See ya, Jackaboy."
