The house was unnaturally quiet which Kai found strange. Usually he heard the mischievous giggles of his four children or his husband's grumbles and under the breath cussing as he tried to repair something in the garage.
Today was different. Everything was silent and unnerving for Kai. Out of curiosity he decided to check in on his family. He lightly tread down the hall to the playroom where his children spent most of their time. Kai opened the door a crack and to his surprise all four of his children were playing peaceful with each other.
Kevin and Avi were constructing a tower made of wooden bricks. Scott had decided to attack them with Power Ranger action figures whilst Kirstie content herself with a baby doll and stuffed bear.
Kai smiled before quietly shutting the door. "Just Carter now." he mumbled making his way back to the kitchen. The door to the garage was before you stepped into the kitchen and is where Carter spent most of his time repairing broken items and vehicles.
He rummaged through piles of papers and slammed his fist hard of the laptop when it froze, cussing quietly at it. Carter was determined to surprise Kai for their anniversary, so getting his technology to work would be a step in the right direction. Kai poked his head through the door and chuckled at his husband's frustration.
"Having trouble?"
Carter turned swiftly to meet the gleaming emeralds his husband possessed and smirked. "Not at all. Just trying to surprise the man in my life but technology has other ideas." replied Carter turning back to his laptop, delivering another fist to the keyboard.
Kai just laughed again and noticed a certain paper, strayed from the original pile, with bold, capitalised print as a heading. His eyes widened and he blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't dreaming. His eyes then travelled to the back of Carter's head, a smile growing on his lips and tears brimming his eyes.
"Are you serious babe?"
Carter turned to face him, confused by what he meant and then he saw he paper. He couldn't help but smile at his over emotional husband and removed himself from his swivel chair. "Yes babe. We're having another kid." Carter replied. Kai enveloped Carter in a tight hug, clutching the adoption form in his hand and happy tears cascading down his cheeks.
Meanwhile...
"Scott! That's not fair! Kevin! Tell him that's not fair!" whined Avi looking to his older brother for support. The six year old shook his head and looked to the four year old, nearly brought to tears.
"Scott. You need to let us rebuild. Avi. Don't shout, ask Scott nicely to stop." Kevin said, trying to appeal to both his brothers.
Avi looked to Scott, feeling guilty for shouting at him and crawled over to him. He hugged him tightly. "I'm sorry Scottie, I should have been nicer." Avi apologised. Scott looked up at the five year old with teary blue eyes and a smile on his face.
"That's okay Avi. I forgive you." he replied. Kevin smiled at his handy work as Scott began to help Avi rebuild the tower. He looked over to his little sister, she was babbling away to herself pretending she was talking to her teddy bear. "Kirstie." Kevin called to her and she turned to face him.
She had the biggest smile on her face as she tightly gripped her teddy bear. "Yeah?" she responded. "You wanna play with us?" asked Kevin pointing to the tower beside him. Kirstie shook her head and got to her feet. "I'm going to find Daddy." she replied. Kevin shrugged his shoulders and went back to playing with his brothers.
