Victors POV

The girl gets closer to me. Amanda. My best friend. The girl who was in the games with me. But the look in her eyes are different. She looks evil. She holds up something in her hand. No! She lowers the knife down to my cheek.

"Amanda please..." I say.

"Stupid Victor. You shouldn't have put so much trust in me. Now I will be your killer," she answers.

"Amanda...." I cry.

She brings the knife down to my neck.

"Any last words?"

Tears form in my eyes. She was going to kill me. She wasn't only my best friend, I was madly in love with her.

"Amanda... I love you...."I whisper.

Amanda plunges the knife into my neck.

"The feeling is not neutral,"She whispers.

And my vision began getting black.

I woke up screaming. I was home. In my bed. Amanda was dead.

You see, as soon as I was twelve and she was thirteen she was chosen for the games. She died during the ending. She had killed lots of people brutally but was betrayed by her ally. He was her killer.

I shutter.

I get up. Sunlight poured through the window. What time is it? I bolt up.

I trample downstairs. My mom and dad were gone. So it must be around 10! They will be home around 10:15 to take me to the reaping. I calm myself down. I don't want to have a heart attack.

This year there is a quarter quell. Only the sick and disabled and such go into the games. I have a weak heart as they say, and I get heart attacks if I'm too stressed or excited. Which makes me seem weak.

I get ready fast. I don't want to be late. Its nothing much, just a black T-shirt and blue jeans. I wear black combat boots. The normal.

I start worrying about the quarter quell and take my meds. They keep my heart under control. A quick flashback enters my mind.

"Really Victor?" Says Amanda.

She moves the little strand of her brown hair out of her face.

"Yes. They are this big. Is really hard to swallow."

Amanda laughs. She then reaches over and takes my hand. She squeezes.

"Hey Victor?"

"Ya Amanda?"

"Promise me something."

"Yep?"

"If I get chosen for the game and die you have to promise never to forget me.*

"Same for me."

We pinky swore. And then she pulled me into a hug. But she held me there for awhile and whispered "And avenge me too."

"Always."

That next day she was chosen.

I shake my head. I will get revenge on the capitol.

My mom arrives. Dad won't be back from work until the actual quarter quell.

We are silent on the way there. She gives me a pat on the back. Then she leaves to where the adults are.

I get my stuff done. I join my age group. I hate them all. I wish Amanda was here.

I blocked out everything. I looked down. I didn't hear anything till I heard "I volunteer!"

There was my cousin. She has always been my other best friend and not only that she was all I had left.

Then I heard a female voice call out "Victor Reynolds."

No.

My mom screamed.

I joined Eva (my cousin) at the stage. I had eyes for no one else. My mom howled.

"Shake hands," said a voice.

I shook her hand. She shook mine. Eva.

We were whisked away to a building.

My mom and dad came into the room.

"Be careful sport. Be nice to your mentor. They are one thing that may keep you from life from death," said my dad.

My mom kept crying.

"My baby. My poor sweet baby," she whispered.

I hugged them and peace keepers took them away. No one else came. My best friend was dead. And my cousin was coming with me.

So I did something anyone v would do.

I cried.
