First term(gmw)

Chapter one

"Maya, you're late again."
"Sorry, sir."
"That is five classes so far this quarter and two classes this week." Said Mr.Matthews, looking at his attendance sheet. "I will be calling home after class." She nodded and sat down.
"Where were you?" Asked Riley.
"I lost track of time."
"You know, you've been doing that a lot lately."
"Thanks for pointing out the obvious."
"But why?"
"I've just been thinking about something."
"A guy?"
"No."
"Talking time is over, read pages 23-38." Said Mr.Matthews.

"I thought that I had a say in this."
"Maya, I think you are really going to like it there."
"But I like it here."
"But you're not doing well, you are going to learn responsibility and independence on top of the great academics. They have so many options of extra- curricular activities, also."
"You're not even my dad."
"But you're mother wanted this, she couldn't afford it."
"She did?"
"Yes, Maya. We care and I know it's not such an exciting school with a huge campus and everything but you're going to make friends and you can visit your old ones after you're first term."
"What about my mom?"
"She can call twice a week."
"It's so far."
"It's a great school."
"I would keep fighting but I know that I have to. This is gonna be so hard."
"So you agree to go."
"It's not like I have a say."
"Boarding school it is."
Maya was upset, happy, scared, excited. She was everything but at the moment, she was mostly worried. She had to tell her friends. It was Monday night and she had until Sunday.

"Assignment time."
"Ugh."
"Yay." Said Farkle.
"This will be due next Monday."
"Can we make it Friday?" Said Maya.
"Seriously?"
"She's joking dad."
"I'd hope or I would be concerned."
"So that's a no?"
"Yes."
"Yes it is a no?"
"No."
"So it's a yes?"
"No!"
"But I won't be here Monday."
"Why?"
"Can I talk to you about it later?"
"Yes, You're partner will turn in the work you did together Monday and you will present Tuesday. You're assignment will be to make timeline of the civil war in detail, using the names and acts of all of the people on this list." He said, holding up a page stack of paper. "And 10 additional events."
He assigned the groups. Riley and Farkle were together and Maya and Lucas were together.
