I sit cross-legged on the edge of a fountain

waiting for 15 minutes to pass

I sit still and silent

My mom tells me to get popcorn

I wait

Then it starts to rain.

The drops fall from the darkened sky

on the glowing screen I stare at

"b there in 15"...

It's been 20

My mind starts to race as my breathing shallows

A friend tells me the movie is starting

I sit still silent

My thoughts wander down dark back alleys

What if they're in danger?

What if they're hurt?

What if-

No, I see their car pull up, 25 minutes late

I am drenched by the crying sky

They walk to me

laughing

They apologize and take me inside.

But I can't get out of the dead end alley in my mind
