Brrrrrring! Brrrrrring!
The phone in the front office of the newly-named Devil May Cry devil hunting agency rung loudly, alerting anyone around that a phone call needed to be answered.
Dante, the owner, employer, and only worker in the agency, was half-asleep, his feet propped up on his desk, arms behind his head, and a magazine over his face as he snored quietly. The minute the phone rang, however, he sprung up, caught off-guard by the shrill noise.
"Huh?! Whu-!" He began with a start, before he lost his balance and his chair fell backwards, sending him crashing to the floor.
"Owww..." The young half-demon rubbed the back of his head, opening one eye to look up at the source of his rude awakening; the phone. "Stupid piece of..." He grumbled, as he stood up, brushing himself off. He reached for the phone, pressing it to his ear.
"Devil May Cry... It's 2:00 AM, this better be good." He grunted in annoyance. However, as the voice on the other end explained the situation, Dante's groggy and disgruntled attitude slowly faded, giving way to one of shock, and almost fear.
"Oh... Oh I... I see..." Dante nervously scratched the back of his head, staring blankly forward as he continued to listen. "I understand. I'll be over there in a few minutes... Thank you."
He hung up the phone and stared down at his desk for a minute, everything he'd just heard swirling around in his head. Vergil... That was all he could think. How could he do this? His twin brother, who he had just recently killed, had a secret child? One who he had abandoned??
Dante let out a heavy and ragged sigh, walking towards the door. He wasn't at all sure what he thought. After all, he was about to meet the only human being on earth who—for however short a time—made his demonic brother feel love.

Dante looked up at the towering, dimly-glowing hospital building in front of him; this was the place he had been asked to come to. The air on that autumn evening was especially cool, and sent a few shivers down Dante's spine.
He couldn't help but feel extraordinarily nervous, and he felt his stomach twist and churn uncomfortably, but he pushed the feelings away and stepped forward into the hospital.
After checking in with a kindly nurse at the front desk and informing her who he was there to see, he was directed to a room numbered 3. He quietly turned the knob of the door, and peered inside, taking a few cautious steps forward.
There, lying in the only bed in the room, was a thin, sickly-looking young woman, no older than the 18-year-old Dante himself. She had just longer than shoulder-length chocolate coloured hair, and gentle, sky-blue eyes.
If her hair had been blonde, Dante would have sworn she looked just like Eva, his mother.
Dante's eyes were glued to the young woman (who hadn't noticed him come in yet,) for a moment, caught up in her innocent beauty. However, his eyes slowly shifted downwards as he sensed a movement, noticing a small bundle in her arms. No, not a bundle... A tiny baby boy, who she cradled gently in her arms.
The boy was half-asleep, but his eyes were still visible, as well as a little tuft of platinum-blond hair. His little eyes shone that very same grey-blue that Dante's did—that his brother's did.
The young woman looked up, finally noticing the bewildered and nervous Dante.
"Oh... Oh my!" The woman exclaimed, "You really do look exactly like Vergil... I-I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself..." She shook her head, then looked back up at Dante with a warm smile,
