"People call me Castor, though. I used to bring castor oil to school because my mom thought it would come in handy. It never did," Cadence, or Castor, continued talking even with the fuming teacher in the front. Castor had medium-length, black hair that she kept back with a big bow and stormy, hazel eyes. Her eyebrows were straight and thick, obviously unplucked yet charming.
Amanda thought everyone seemed so relaxed, even too much. She, for one, was scared half to death by the monstrous figure in the front. The heavy breathing and crooked, yellow teeth were prominent.
Castor sensed her wariness and reassured,"Teacher's half blind. Can't see past her desk."
"Oh, but aren't her other senses better then?" Amanda wondered, staring at the teacher who was scouring the classroom like a hawk.
"If she wasn't such a bore."
A bunch of muffled laughs come from the back of the class and a boy coughed,"The dinosaur roars."
Everyone bursted into boisterous laughter, and the teacher roared even louder. Finally, she found the boy by counting the number of rows and desks, and she scolded James, was it, for misbehaving. His strawberry-blond hair stood up tall, showing acne all over his forehead.
When class finally ended, Castor said,"Want to go meet some of my friends?"
"I guess," Amanda grabbed her messenger bag from under the table and the cumbersome textbooks.
People were pushing and shoving their way through the small opening that could barely be considered a door, so they decided to wait until it died down to get out of the classroom. Finally, they managed to get out and the halls seemed so different compared to this morning. It was filled to the brim with students and it looked like an aquarium overfilled. The teachers were piranhas, searching for students to scold and punish and the lockers were coral. Suddenly, a petite hand wrenched out of the crowd and waved Castor over.
"That's Selena," Castor told Amanda, pointing to the hand.
When they finally reached Selena, she was already in a conversation with some boy with an interesting face. His eyebrows were abnormally arched as if he were some villain, but he had a white, bright grin on his face. Selena laughed, but it seemed she was straining her neck looking that high up. It cracked every time her head made a turn.
"Selena, hey!" Castor snapped her fingers with a click to get her attention.
"Oh, huh? Hi, who's this?" she asked while the boy poked her shoulder.
"Amanda," Amanda gave an awkard smile because the boy was taking up most of her attention.
"I'm Aaron," he enunciated a little bit too slowly. He put up a hand to wave, but did not actually wave because he was too focused on harassing her.
They seemed like a cute couple. An abnormal couple, but a cute couple, no less. Were they even a couple? Castor decided to leave them alone and pushed Amanda along, helping her find her locker.
"Number 78," Castor pointed to the one in the middle of that flirtatious girl from first period and another girl who had a face shape like a fox. Her layered hair pointed out like the hair in the 70's and she had an Indian friend next to her with a large, protruding nose creating a shadow that resembled a mustache.
"Don't be fooled by Emma's looks. She seems sweet and she'll act like she is nice, but behind your back she is a gossiping, popular-people-following wench. She stole all my friends at language school when we were little," Castor glared at Emma.
Amanda stared for a second at Emma, wondering if those comments were true. She noticed Amanda looking and gave a warm grin.
"Who's that? She looks nice," Emma's friend whispered to her.
