As you should know, there are many types of anime, which fall under about 8 different categories.

Every anime usually falls under at least 4 or 5 different categories....

Audience

There are 7 different audience levels for an anime. These are used to recomend the age you should be or what gender usually watches the anime.

Josei:Josei animes are usually written by woman and are reccomended more for woman ages 18+. (These animes are not always sexual and the age rating can sometimes be 16+)

Kodomo: Kodomo animes are more recommended for young children, they are designed for the childs short attention span and usually try to teach a child how to act around people using daily lessons.

Kazoku: Kazoku animes are animes that are intended for families. They have no real age range, but its most likely rated something like G or PG.

Mina: Mina animes are more of a drama anime, its recommended for girls, but a lot of guys actually watch it as well.

Seinen: Seinen anime are usually targeted for men ages 18+ and are written by men. (These animes are not always sexual and the age rating can sometimes be 16+)

Shōjo: Shōjo anime is written for girls ages 10+. They are usually malodramatic stories of romance, usually with a female protaganist.

Shōnen: Shōnen anime is often written for boys ages 13+. They usually have high action, as well as have humorous plots with male protaganists.

There are aproximately 78 different types of elements in an anime. The elements are the usualy genres you find in the anime. They tell you exactly what to expect in it.

Action:A class of creative works characterised by a greater emphasis on exciting action sequences than on character development or story-telling. - Action anime can break off into 6 different categories.

Adventure: The context of a narrative, is typically applied to works in which the protaganist or other major characters are consistantly placed in dangerous sistuations, and a fictional character who lives by their wits and their skills.
