-Kade-

Being in the hospital gives me far too much time alone. Too much time to think.

I get that I need time to recover but i'm already itching to get out of this bed and just move. Anything really.

Sometimes the nurse will leave the curtain open and I can see Gemma, but only for a few minutes before the guilt starts creeping into my conciousness and makes me wanna stick a glock under my chin. Then I have to look away or press my stiff pillow to my face.

I brush my hair out of my eyes and look at her. She's small. She could pass for a 12 year old really,if she tried, but I know she's 17. Using my super stealth, I had already snuck a peek into the manila folder in the metal bin at the foot of her bed. She was born Gemma Fey, her blood type was A positive and I was born a few months ahead of her. One mystery was where the form said medical conditions it only listed a number that was way to long to memorize. Like a phone number or something.

"Kadey!!" Benny's small voice washes over me and a smile immediately stretches my lips out as I turn toward the sound. My little brother grins up at me from the side of the bed, one side of his full head of hair plastered up like he had slept on it.

"Hey kiddo. What's up?" I say, ruffling his hair and making him scrunch up his freckled nose in disapproval.

"Auntie Liza bought me a new fish cause Ronald got out his bowl and ran away." He says throwing his arm over my thigh. I raise an eyebrow at my Aunt who gives me a sheepish grin and looks at the ground while picking at her manicured fingernails.

"Oh really?" I pick him up and put him on my lap. "What's the twerp's name this time?"

"Cuppy is not a twerp!" Benny shouts suddenly and I blink at the four year old's sudden outburst. "He's blue and his rocks are orange and green." He says calmly as he pats my face, his eyebrows furrowed over his hazel eyes.

"Woah! Those sound nice. Did you pick 'em out?" I ask, poking my brother in his stomach.

He grins and nods frantically. "I accidently dropped them on the floor and then Auntie gave me the sucker thingy to pick them up and then I got my sock sucked up and then the sucker thingy started smelling like when Auntie tries to cook." I laugh at the mischievious glimmer in his eyes and pull him into my arms.

"I'm gonna kiss you Ben." I tease and he squirms and smashes both clammy little hands into my face to try and get me off. "Ew Kadey. I'm big now. You can't hug me without my permshin." He pouts when I release him.

"You mean permission?" I ask with a grin.

He waves a small hand dismissively. "Whatever. Auntie is gonna take me to buy school stuff 'cause they sent a list in the mail and I will flunked if I don't have everything."

"Mmmmm. You do realize its Kindergarten, right kid?" He grumbles something under his breath. I look at Eliza, who is staring at her work phone and typing, thumbs moving like lightning. "Well then, I guess you better get to it. Liza?" She looks up and nods curtly.

"Visit me later, okay Ben." He bites my thumb as a goodbye.

"Come on, Benny Bear." She holds out her hand for his as he hops off the bed.

"Please call me Benjamin, Eliza." He says seriously as he takes her hand and waves a goodbye to me.

I stuff my fist in my mouth to keep from laughing.

"Bye, Little Man." I say loudly.

"SHUT UP!" I hear him yell from the hallway. I feel a smile spread across my face as  my aunt tells him to watch his mouth. He's the best.
