November 12th, 2014.

"Mum, my name is out" I screamed out aloud partly out of excitement and for the fact that my mum have a hearing problem.

"Your name is out, really?" She also screeched out making the phone to nearly slip of my hands.

"Yes mummy, I just saw it in the notice board. Mummy I can't just believe it, I am now an undergraduate!" I replied excitedly.

"wow, congrats girl. So when will you be going for your screening?" She asked but after saying some thanks greeting to God in our local dialect.

"Mum, let me get home first and then we will discuss everything about school but let me call daddy first, ok?"

"ok and send my regards to him"

That's not something new coming from my mum, since the separation of my parents, my mum has not come to the terms that she is now a single woman, I believe a part of her still loves my dad but she is just stubborn to see that. She just simply stopped communicating with him. And ever since the disastrous separation of 5 years, she has remained single while my dad has moved on, he is now married with 2 kids.

"ok mum, take care of yourself and remember I love you the most" I murmured to her earning a look of surprise from my best friend, Jack short for Jacquelyn before shorting my phone.

"I just don't know how to deal with my mum and dad, it break me so much that they couldn't act along even just for me" I sighed and the spirit of happiness that my name was out among the list of opportune students flew with the passing wind.

"Come on Tracy, God knows you are trying your best and they will someday come together" She whispered because of the new group of students that just join us. She took my hands and walked me away from them.

"Cheer up, for crying out loud! You are supposed to be jumping and screaming for joy. Your name came out in a hard to get in school!!" She whispered in a frustrated tone when she saw that her previous words weren't creating the effective desire on me.

She looked towards the group of students will just left and she tapped me to look also and I saw a young boy of my age shaking his head dejectedly while his peers pat him on his shoulders. Just looking at the scene we knew what just took place, the guy's name was not In the list.

"Poor guy, I have no idea what he must be feeling" I whispered sadly feeling his pain

"See! That is the reason why you can't let your parents gets to you." She whispered while pinching me on my arm that she havnt let go.

"ok,ok you win, lets go get something cool to drink, the sun is so hot!!" I said walking towards the school cafeteria

"That's the spirit" she praised walking behind me.

That's the reason I love Jack so much she has always been there for me, right from kindergarten to when my parents separated to now and she has never changed.

I can stop reminding her of the fact that she has been the best part of my life. Though, she is a year older than me and a class ahead of me. That hasn't stopped her from being my best friend.

As we were drinking I called my dad to relay him the exciting news and his reaction was every parent's normal reaction. He couldn't stop praising God for my success. And I couldn't stop smiling. He promised to come over the weekend to take both Jack and I to Lagos to celebrate. Immediately I dropped the call, my mood changed again because I already know the mood of this weekend and its going to be big time Awkward, my mum will have to leave the house or travel somewhere just to avoid my dad and my dad will try his best to make thinks easy and smooth for me but the only consolation will be JACK.

PREPARING FOR SCHOOL.

Things to buy.....

1. A stove

2. A wardrobe

3. 2 Racks

4. A Chair and a table....

The list was endless. You know when a lady make a list she fills thousand of paper but she cannot be satisfied. And I am such a lady and especially when my dad is the one paying the bills then I don't get guilty when shopping and my friend was also there to save the day. Her troll and mine were filled up and we haven't gotten to the most of the shopping yet.

My dad and I left my mum sulking at home because she know that my dad will be spoiling me rotten with goodies, I kind of feel for her, I know she is feeling bad that she is not the one taking me shopping and she also know that if she was the one, my troll won't be full right now. That's good for her because I spent the entire Friday and Saturday pleading with her to go with us since she is not travelling anywhere but she refused and when I said refuse I meant refuse with a capital R.

"Bae, have you gotten your provisions yet?" asked my dad breaking into my thoughts.

"Dad, just a few, but I want to get something for mum. Pretty please" I pleaded with my puppy and innocent look that always work with my dad but sometimes with my mum. So I went and pick some kilishiis snacks for her, those were my mum favourites.

After the shopping, we all went to the beach and had some fun, I wore my red polka dot one piece bikini while Jack wore a black polka dot bikini. When we came out of the room for changing, we walk straight on bare legs to where my dad was lying and receiving a call. On our little walk there, I could say we turned a few heads and I can say I was the least bothered because I knew I was every man's dream come true but Jack was a little insecure so she had to tie a matching wrap around her waist.

"These are my beautiful girls, ready for some fun?" he asked keeping his phone aside while he envelope us in a hug.

"Yes daddy" we both scream

Don't be surprise that Jack calls my dad "daddy", she is so familiar with him because she practically stayed with us. We had a lot of fun after which it was time to travel back home.

Immediately we got home dad left us saying he has an important meeting on Monday that he has to go prepare for but not after giving me some piece of advice but one phrase I put to heart was "follow your Head before the Heart", putting it to heart and not acting on it was the greatest mistake In my life.

My mum did her part by taking me to the saloon to fix my hair and nails. After which we went to the market to buy a bigger duffel bag since my things seems too much for the duffel bag back at home.

We got home and met Jack arranging my clothes in the duffel bag. She welcomes us with a smile.

"Wow, Tracy I love your look, the hair is so hot on you, Bae" She praised touching my hair, it was a Senegalese twist with a touch of red colour.

"Thanks Bae" I replied moving towards the bed to drop the extra duffel bag. My mum excused us to go make chocolate for us. Yummy!! My favorite, which is one thing I am going to miss when I go to school.

"Boys go suffer oh for that school oh" she commented in pidgin while throwing a pillow at me

"No na, I just don't want to go there looking like a ............. I don't have a word for it" I explained throwing the pillow back at her.

"But you know when the sun in Edo deals with you, you won't look this fresh anymore" She joked decking the pillow at me with more force, that started our famous pillow fight with our happy laughter ringing through the house.

"Girls" My mum screamed from downstairs.
