♡ Arianna’s POV. ♡

Ladies and gentleman, we’ve arrived to our final destination. Please keep your seatbelts on until the plane is completely still. We hope you’ll enjoy your stay in Spain and thank you for travelling with Air Canada.

I was relieved that the flight was over. Can you only imagine myself sitting 9 hours on a plane, with a baby that keeps on crying and screaming as a background noise and only eating airplane food looking more like some sort of mash a cat wouldn’t eat..? Well, like you’ve imagined (or not) I hate flights. Actually, I hate planes and everything that flies.

Anyway, my name’s Arianna. I’m a normal teenage girl who lives in Toronto, Canada. I’ve recently turned 15, so – with a lot of pleading and relevant arguments such as: I’ll do anything, I’m mature enough, EVERYBODY has one, blablablaa – my parents agreed to buy me a cellphone ONLY if I spend my summer holidays at my aunt’s house in Spain. Now, you’re probably thinking this is the best gift a 15 years old Canadian teenager can get. Well, my friend, you’re completely wrong. To start: I hate trips, I hate going away for a long time and I hate my Spanish family. Why? Because they never helped us when we needed them, they didn’t come to any of my birthdays, they didn’t even bother to send me a birthday card. They don’t care about me, and I don’t care about them either. I never even saw them. They are the type of rich people that just cares about themselves and their image.

Because my father wants to keep contact with his family – Yes. Even if they don’t really care about us – each year he offers me to spend my summer at my aunt’s place, but I refuse every time. Except this year - because I really wanted to have a cellphone and not be the only one who doesn’t have one from the entire school – I accepted his offer.

So here I was: tired, hungry and exhausted from that stupid 9 hours flight. I didn’t even wait for the plane to be still, as soon as the pilot finished his message; I jumped from my seat, took my luggage and headed to the front of the plane.

*~*

I sighed as I watched my phone for the hundredth time this afternoon. My aunt was supposed to pick me up from the airport half an hour ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if she forgot me. Like I said earlier, my Spanish family don’t care about me. By the way, I’m saying ‘’Spanish family’’ and by that I mean my aunt (who’s divorced, so, she’s living alone in a big house), my grandparents and my uncle (my father’s brother). To pass the time, I began to imagine the big house where I’d live during this summer with my aunt and what she looked like. I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t even realize a brown haired woman walking towards me.

‘’Arianna? Is that you?’’ she shouted with a strong Spanish accent.

I snapped out of my day dreaming state and with a confused tone I said: ‘’eum, yeah…!’’

I stared at the woman standing now in front of me. She was 1 head taller than me and was about 30 to 40 years old. This woman had medium brown hair, big blue eyes just like my dad and was dressed in a very sophisticated and classy way. I could tell she was wearing a lot of makeup. She looked like the feminine version of my father. So I guessed she was my aunt.

‘’Oh my god I’m so sorry for being late sweetheart, but Nelson – my driver – is on vacation, so I had to drive on my own to the airport.’’ She simply said.

Even though I was pissed off - not only because she was late, also because she had the nerve to call me sweetheart even if I never met her – I responded calmly ‘’it’s okay…’’

‘’You can call me Eva’’ she finished.

I nodded and awkwardly asked:

‘’So where’s your car?’’

‘’Follow me honey!’’ she responded and started walking away.

What?! Does she really thinks that calling me sweet names will make up her none presence in my life? Well, sorry to burst your bubble my dear, but I won’t forgive you just because you call me sweetheart and honey.  I’m just staying for the summers at your house so don’t pretend everything’s alright between us because it’s not.

With that I followed her out of the airport. As soon as I stepped outside, I was greeted by the sun shining and the hot climate. I put my new pair of sunglasses on and headed to my aunt’s car with all of my suitcases. I placed all of my things in her car’s trunk and I sat on the passenger’s sit in the front.

During the car ride, my aunt kept on talking about the places I should visit and the things I should do this summer, but I wasn’t really paying attention to her. I was looking at the beautiful view that was passing outside of my window. I leaned my head on the glass, ughh, that was going to be an interesting summer!
