Hungry - Chapter Nine

The same night

Niall walked through the many isles of Tesco, looking at all the frozen food. He really shouldn't be the one to shop, he'd end up buying more than he should. For example, that pack of doughnuts that were two quid. The main reason why he was shopping was because he had planned to cook for Zayn. But since he didn't know exactly how to, and based on the fact that he once burned Perrie's forehead (don't ask) he was probably going to fail this task.

"Plan B" Niall whispered as he grabbed two boxes of frozen pizza and dumped them into his trolley. Preventing himself from impulse buying anymore he rushed over towards the cashier, beginning to unload all his items on the conveyer belt. Then something caught his eye. The cover of a magazine.

Perrie Edwards and boyfriend, Zayn Malik, getting serious?

Underneath the bold white writing was a picture of his twin sister, and Zayn, holding hands in various locations. One picture caught his eye though. It was located in the bottom right corner, a zoomed in version of the photo above. It was Perrie's hand and wrapped around her slender finger was a ring. He felt as if a car had slammed straight through his organs, the painful feeling of jealousy, disappointment and guilt smacking him straight in the face.

"Sir?" The cashier called out, snapping Niall's attention back to reality. "Are you gonna buy that?" Niall looked at him before dropping his gaze back at the magazine. He nodded. "Yeah. I will buy it." He said in a quite agitated tone. The ginger lad looked quite surprised, his eyebrows raising slightly as he scanned it. Niall gave him the money, before racing out with the trolley, putting all the plastic bags in his car and returning the trolley. He then drove home, finding Zayn pacing back and fourth in their living room. He used his foot to shut the door and the older lad's head whipped around. "Where have you been?! Do you know what time it is?! Why—" "Calm your cunt, I just went shopping." Niall chuckled, setting the bags down on the kitchen counter. "What did you buy there? I'm the one that cooks here, princess. What you got in those bags."

He raised a brow suspiciously, peeking into the plastic. "No!" Niall scolded slapping his hand away. "I mean, ughh..just went to buy some food! Thats all." He said leaning up, latching his lips onto Zayn's. Like always, Zayn can't resist him, so he had to kiss back. Whilst kissing, Niall slowly reached over towards one of the bags and slipped his hand into it, grabbing the magazine that was behind the taller boy, one hand running through Zayn's hair while the other tried to reach for the item. Zayn's eyes shot open at the sound of plastic, and he pulled away, turning around and grabbing the paper out of his hands.

"Give me it!" Niall tried, jumping up and trying to reach for it. Zayn ran around the corner, behind the sofa and the blonde watched his eyes trail over the front cover. "What the fuck is this?" Zayn furrowed his brows, raising the cover up to show Niall.

"I should be asking you that!, are you guys engaged?! Did you fucking propose?!" He snatched the magazine and looked at the picture again, his heart dropping at how Perrie was looking at what he thought was his. "I didn't fucking propose okay! Listen, Niall. You don't understand." "Whats not to understand about this?! Look at it." He wanted to scrub Zayn's face with the photo, just scrub it right on his pretty little face in hopes he'd realise that it does look like they're getting married. "Its only been like five days, do you really work that quick, Malik!?"

Zayn frowned. They were back to where they started again, it wasn't 'Zayn' anymore, it was back to 'Malik'. He sighed, defeatedly. "They're promise rings." Niall could feel his heart sink, that perplexed emotion pumping through his veins, that feeling he got ever so often when Zayn talks about Perrie or anything related.

To tell the truth, he doesn't know. He doesn't know anything anymore. He'll feel disappointed, then at the same time relieved, then they'll be a bit of jealousy with a slight dash of happiness. A series of mixed emotions running through his head, but which one does he go for?

"When did this happen?" His voice barely audible, as Zayn stood in front of him, but he refused eye contact so he stared at the floor. "Little over a month ago, before you knew I was...yeah, I'm sorry" Niall chuckled through his watery eyes, clear crystal irises glassing over with tears. "Its fine. I was just a fuck buddy anyway, right?" He shook his head. Zayn stood silent, Niall oblivious to the thoughts running through the older lad's head; thoughts of Niall.

The blonde sighed, chewing on his lip as he stared at the food he was going to cook in a few days time. It kinda dampened the whole birthday mood, but he would still do it if Zayn hates him, if Zayn absolutely despised his very being, he's still throw what he had planned. Because he knows Zayn can't stay mad at him, and it was quite clear that the two refuse to speak due to the silence. A few awkward moments passed before Zayn started putting the groceries away, beginning to cook. Niall watching carelessly at the tv, eyes filled with disinterest and pain as he buried his damp cheeks into his knees. Zayn aware of what he was doing, but doing nothing as to help. Besides, what could he do?

-

"I'm gonna sleep in the guest room tonight" Ouch. That hit him right in the face. "Okay" Niall muttered, as he took the last piece of food in his mouth before standing up and leaving, scurrying up to his room. Unintentionally slamming the door shut, he threw himself onto the mattress. The scent of Zayn not particularly helping. He thinks this is good, what Zayn did. He thinks that it a good way to forget, a good way to say that whatever happened was nothing but sex, if you ignore all the blushing and the names, that was it, just sex.

He buried his face deeper into his, Zayn-smelling, pillow. This is a good thing, Niall. Its the right thing to do. He told himself as he sniffed up some snot. He doesn't feel anything for Zayn, he doesn't feel anything for his twins' boyfriend, the lad who has already given promise rings to another girl, that girl being his sister. "No.." He whimpered into the wet fabric "Its nothing" he repeated, clutching a cushion to his chest, ignoring the pain inside of it.

-

Zayn stared up at the ceiling, hearing the faint whimpers of Niall next door and his only desire was to cuddle up to him and call him princess, sadly that wasn't allowed. He turned his head so he was facing his bedside table, the silver band resting on the maple wood, all alone. He sighed, shaking his head at how disgusted he was at himself.

Cheating on a beautiful girl, with her twin brother as well. Perrie was his love, it was supposed to be. Supposed to. He didn't know what happened. Niall just gave him these feelings that he didn't understand, this was all when Niall hated him. He tried with Perrie and she also gave him that feeling, but the emotions he had with Niall were stronger. He's pretty sure Niall doesn't know, he's also pretty damn sure that the boy has feelings for him, which complicates the situation even more.

He guessed it all started from day one. Him being so forward to the blonde and telling him that he should take a ride..on his dick. He chuckled at his old self, memories of how much Niall had changed for the past few years flashing through, he frowned. Eyes dropping from the ceiling and back to the shiny ring. He slipped it back on, Perrie coming to mind.

His eyes then returned back to the table, staring harshly at the ceramic piece, he automatically smiled. It was the piece from Niall's art project that he secretly kept. How happy Niall was and how surprised, it made Zayn smile at the thought. His grin faltered at the buzz of his phone, Perrie. He unlocked it, reading the texts.

Its probably really late noww but just wanted to say goodnight :) Love you !! Xx

Zayn bit his lip, fingers hovering over the screen before replying.

Goodnight, love u too xx

He rested the device back onto the wood, turning away from it so he couldn't see it. He squeezed his eyes shut. Its not that hard. He thought, feeling the metallic taste of blood on his lip. Why can't I do it? He whimpered. He blinked before he let the sleep take over, eyelashes falling over his tan cheeks. Maybe its for the best.He thought. It needs to be done, but why can't it? Why is it so hard? He sniffled before throwing the duvet over his shoulders.

Why can't I forget?
