God damn kid
Audrey groused when she entered her apartment to the sight and sound of a DVD menu looping over and over on the other side of the ugly green couch. Dumping her bag on the kitchen table she went over and turned off the TV and DVD player. Not what she needed on a Friday night.
Twenty-five and stuck with a kid. How did I get so lucky? Having kids sucked.
Having a sixteen year old that wasn't even yours sucked even more. However when her much older half sister died in a car crash Audrey was the one the will stuck her sister's kid with. Which wasn't too bad. Most of the time.
He could have at least turned the tv off when he was done with -oh. Audrey was stopped in her tracks when she stood and turned around to head back to the apartment small kitchen to make dinner and caught sight of Trevor sleeping on the couch.
Shirtless.
On top of his also shirtless best friend, Mike.
More like best "friends". The thought echoed in her mind as she continued to stare at them. Suddenly she jerked into action and bolted to her room, dodging around piles of clothes and other stuff strewn about her floor.
Camera, camera, camera.
Snagging it off her bedside table Audrey ran back to the couch and started to take pictures of the sleeping boys all the while smiling like the Grinch who just stole Christmas before going to the kitchen to start making spaghetti. It was in her opinion that blackmail always worked better than bribery.
Audrey had to choke back laughter when she realized that she could still see the boys' reflections in the TV screen. It was going to be fun they woke up.
Putting the stainless steel pot full of water on the stove to boil Audrey grabbed the phone off the wall hook and went out into the hall way. Did want to wake up Trevor and Mike too soon they just looked so comfortable together on the couch.
"Hi Sarah, its Audrey."
"Oh hello, Audrey what can I help you with?" Sarah paused, "Trevor's not in trouble is he?" She asked worriedly.
"No not at all the boys are a bit busy at the moment so I was just calling to see if it was all right for Mike to join us for dinner?" Audrey asked Mike's mom. Come on say yes, say yes.
"No, not at all in fact," Sarah laughed, "I was just going to call you to see if it would alright for him to stay the night. I was hoping to have... company over, if you know what I'm getting at."
"Yah I think I do"
"Mike shouldn't be too upset about it," Sarah said sarcastically.
"Oh I think he'll be fine with it," especially since he seems to have the same thing on his mind. Audrey smiled as the scene on the couch popped into her mind again.
"Well bye then Sarah."
"Bye, Audrey." Sarah echoed back as they both hung up and Audrey slipped back into the apartment hanging the phone back up and going to pour the pasta into the now boiling water on the stove.
A quick glance to the side showed her that both boys were still in the same position that she left them in, and a second glance confirmed that her camera was nearby ready to take more pictures when they woke up.
The spaghetti was almost done by the time the two boys started to wake up.
"Perfect timing," Audrey said under her breath as she grabbed her camera and turned it on the sound of the sauce boiling fading to the background.
Mike groaned and turned his head towards the TV as Trevor shifted so that he was leaning on his elbows instead of sprawled across Mike's chest. Reflective surfaces, truly a miracle.
Mike stared at the TV, "I don't remember turning the TV off. Actually I don't even remember the end of the movie."
"Well we must of it's off isn't it?" Trevor told Mike as he leaned down and kissed him, "Hey what time is it anyway?"
"How the hell would I know? Wait, do you smell spaghe...tti"
Slowly two terrified looking faces peeked over the top of the couch and Audrey snapped picture quickly before they had time to duck back behind the back of the ugly ass couch.
"Hey there sleeping beauties, put your shirts back on and sit down dinners ready. And yah, it's spaghetti." Audrey said with a shit eating grin scooping the pasta into the three bowls sitting on the counter.
"Uh maybe I should go..." Mike mumbled yanking on his shirt and heading towards the door.
"Nope."
They both froze looking confused, "nope?" Mike question slowly.
"Nope, Audrey repeated. I already called your mom, you're staying for dinner now sit." She told in a voice that didn't allow for argument.
"You called my mom? You didn't tell her did you?" Mike asked the bloody draining from his scared looking face.
"Of course not. Which reminds me you're also spending the night because your mom's got a date," Audrey said with a wink. "Now sit down and eat your pasta."
She set two of the bowls down at the small kitchen table beside each other then grabbed the third bowl and set it down on the third spot, the chairs vinyl seat creaking as she sat down. Slowly the two teenage boys also sat down.
"So... you're okay with us being gay?" Trevor asked nervously. "It doesn't bother you at all?"
"Not in the least. One of my best friends in high school was gay, were still friends actually he just doesn't live in Toronto."
"I didn't want to tell you because Mom didn't really handle it well when I told her."
"Well your mom was, she was... we had vastly different views of the world. It's one of the reasons why we hadn't spoken in nine years."
"Thanks Audrey." Trevor said looking so relieved.
Mike reached over and squeezed his shoulder, "yes thank you."
"No problem. Oh and one more thing, actually two more things, one if you two are going to do anything tonight, or ever, just be safe okay." Both boys flushed with embarrassment and quickly nodded while looking anywhere but at Audrey.
"Two if you are going to do anything do it either when I'm not in the apartment or, for the love of god please, please wait till I'm asleep." Again there was more blushing and nodding and eye evasion.
"Well now that that's over feel free to enjoy your now incredibly awkward meal."
They both laughed and did just that. Though Audrey was pretty sure they were holding hands under the table since she was pretty sure that Trevor wasn't left handed.
