All I saw was a dark hole. Never ending. I was falling down and down, I couldn't stop. I woke up in a cold sweat. I was breathing heavily, but I closed my eyes and went back to sleep. "Rise and Shine Sweetie-Pie!" called Ma from the kitchen. I groaned and closed my eyes, "Why do you wake us up so early Ma?!". Ma bounded up the stairs into my room and put her hands on her hips. "Don't give that attitude Dawn! You know it's your day to tend to the animals right?" I jumped up and said "Wait what? Why didn't you tell me that?!" and I rushed out of the room to the barn. "Time to milk Bessie" I said under my breath.
The day went by fast, I've never had so much fun in my life. Bessie actually cooperated while I was milking her, the chickens laid more eggs then ever before, and the hound Cooper actually helped with the chickens today! Cooper licked my hand after the tremendous task and I smiled down at him. His ears suddenly twitched and he looked unsteady for a moment. "You ok boy?" I said nervously, I've never seen him like this before. He's usually just his old, smiley self. He seemed in shock for a second then shook his fur and seemed his happy self again. I went inside and said, "Ma, Cooper seems to be acting weird today, do you think he's sick?" Ma walked over to Cooper and inspected him. She shook her head. "He looks fine Dawn. Maybe he was just acting up." She said. " I don't know Ma, he was acting much weirder then ever before. I just..... don't know." Ma walked over to me and smiled. "I know you really care about him, and now that he's gotten older.... he'll be fine, he'll be fine." I smiled at her and she embraced me. " You go get ready for dinner and we'll talk about it later ok?" she said. I nodded my head and rushed upstairs to get ready.
When I came down Pa came home from work. "Pa!" I said as I ran over and hugged him. "Dawn! Have you been a good girl?" he said suspiciously. "Maybe..." I said while giggling and hugged him again. "She was a great helper indeed!" Ma said as she set down our plates on the table. Pa smiled at me and we sat down to enjoy our meal. As we finished Pa said, " Dawn could you check outside for wolves? Your brother is at Jimmy's today so he will do it tomorrow." I put my dishes away and said, " Of course Pa! It's fine if Devon does it tomorrow." I grabbed my jacket and my lamp and went outside and stared into the darkness. Then all the sudden my lamp seemed to be pulled from me. I looked around and saw no one and started to panic. All the sudden out of the gloomy darkness I saw two eyes, red ones. I started to collapse and I fought against it, but I couldn't resist. My mind seemed to be corrupted and all the sudden I heard a voice. "Do not be afraid of me." I tried to scream but went I opened my mouth and no sound came out. I felt like someone was controlling my body, I felt like I had no body. All the sudden out of the mist I saw a silhouette in the darkness, the silhouette of a dog. Then I saw the creature, it was black and white and it's red eyes seemed to stare into my soul. That's all I remembered before I collapsed on the ground not in control of my own body.
