It's break after Drama class, and Dan is sat on a bench as he scans the yard for Phil. Over the past few weeks, he hasn't exactly gotten obsessed with the boy, but he definitely likes him. And he never sees Phil in the halls during break, or at parties after school. Apparently he keeps to himself a lot.
According to his Facebook, actually, he played games after school and hung out with his "best friend Cat" during breaks. Dan pities Phil because he ended up with Cat as his best friend. He's been there himself, almost everybody has. Cat tells you gossip and you share your entire life with her, but the truth is, she is a backstabbing bitch. She screwed Dan over so many times during their friendship; he never noticed until he found her and PJ in bed together.
So, poor Phil. Dan thought maybe he should save him, but the thought of talking to Phil scares him shitless.
And speaking of being scared shitless; Emma Blackery is coming toward him. Oh no. Emma Blackery coming towards you is never a good thing.
"Hey, Howell." She says calmly. Dan blinks in surprise. Emma is kind of the school's "bad girl". Her and her boyfriend Luke punched people a lot.
"... Hey?" Dan replies, unsure if Emma has ulterior motives. That theory is demolished as Emma pretty much bursts into tears. She sits down next to Dan on the bench and he awkwardly pats her back. She puts up no fight. "Uh, what's wrong?"
Emma looks at him through her tears. "Luke broke up with me!" Dan is confused as to why she came to him with this news.
"Oh, um, I'm sure it'll al be alri-" Dan tries to console the girl, only to be cut off.
"No it fucking won't, Howell. People told me that we were just that couple who they could never see breaking up, and now we have. I never even saw us breaking up!" Emma rambles through her tears. Dan truly has nothing to say so he just pats her back some more.
"Danny boy, what's happenin over here?" Dan hears the voice of his friend, Jack.
"Oh, nothing much, just off you go." Dan replies, and Jack goes to leave when Emma speaks up.
"Luke has broken up with me." Jack stares at her for a moment.
"I can't fucking believe it, that twat-" Jack says, shocked. "Let's get you inside, yeah? You look a right mess. You can't let him see you like this."
"He's right. Your eyeliner's running, let's go fix that, and then you can show Luke how much you don't care." Dan agrees. "Maybe even punch him in the face." He says as he helps Emma up.
"But I do care!" Emma cries. "I care so much! I miss him already!"
"Alright, Emma, but he doesn't need to know that. Just show him what a strong girl you are." Jack tells her as the trio walks toward the bathrooms.
Dan finds himself realising how much of a community his entire form is. Everyone was outraged when PJ had cheated on Dan; he actually moved schools because while nobody (except for Emma and Luke) had punched him, they had all been salty as fuck towards him until he couldn't stand it and left. Dan was sad when he went, but ultimately it helped him get over the git.
Unfortunately, Cat won't budge. Everyone openly hates her, but she just stays "strong against all the bullies" as it says on the caption of her current Facebook profile picture. Dan decides that if he could do one good thing in his life, it might as well be banding together a few mates and mutual acquaintances to help Phil out of his friendship with Cat.

in case you can't tell i hate cat. however i do not hate PJ but unfortunately i am apparently evil and have made him the bad guy.
