One More Chance

Chapter One

"Ladies and gentlemen. Please fasten your seatbelts. The plane is ready for landing"

I pass through the sliding door of the Nashville airport carrying my bags with me. It was a windy afternoon. The flight from Italy to here was exhausting. 11 hours of flight with a snoring old creepy man beside me. I'm still thankful for this trip though, sponsored by my aunt who always spoils me. Well she and Mateo haven't any child to spoil so they spoil their niece.

Damn must be so hard not having a child. Especially for the part of my aunt Meg. I know she was broken when she found out there's something wrong about her uterus. I immediately comforted her when I found out about the news. She was there for us when my mom died. She has always supported us in our tough times. That's what family is for.

I sleepily took off my shades and scan the crowd to find my dad or my brother who promised to fetch me here on the airport. Instead of my father, I found my dork best friend grinning widely at the sight of me. He was in usual attire. Skinny jeans clad legs, a basic white t-shirt and his handy dandy bandana.

He started walking towards me and I immediately dropped my bags into the floor preparing for his bone crushing hug.

He stands in front of me still grinning. I roll my eyes before spreading my arms wide open. "I know you want to hug me you cupcake." He chuckles shaking his head before enveloping me into a bone crushing.

"I missed you."

"Me too." I laugh pushing him off. "Get off now. I can't breathe." I said. He squeezes my one last time before letting go of me. He immediately crouches down onto the floor. I thought he was going to get my bags but he opens it and immediately searches for something.

After a moment he stands up on his full height with two packs of chocolate on his mouth. I snatch the chocolate. "Let's go home first I'm really tired." I stuck my tongue out before heading to the parking lot.

I immediately get out of Harry's car and quickly scampered to my car. It's a 1963 mercury comet with white leather seat and a black exterior. It was a second hand car that we saw. Chipped paints and it barely start when we bought it. But just a few mechanical and paint jobs and it's ready to use.

"Why are you hugging your car?"

"Dad!" I squealed getting off of the car. He was in his uniform. My dad is the sheriff of the town for almost four years now. He also manages a small diner. Being a single parent he really works hard to him and his four crazy children. After our mom died we've tried to get him a partner but he just really focused on us and not to anyone else.

"JC!" He said grinning widely. I run to him and envelop him into a hug. "I missed you, baby."

"I missed you too, dad." I smile at him while he kissed my forehead.

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to fetch you. I'm really needed at the station right now."

"It's okay dad. Harry was there to pick me up." I said looking at Harry.

"Ah! Son, Harry." I pull away from dad and look at Harry who was carrying my bag. "Thank you for fetching JC." He smiled.

"No problem chief." He said jokingly. His smiled falters quickly. I've noticed it at the car also he was constantly zoning out and in that moment I knew he has something in his mind that constantly bothering him. Being best friends for twelve years we kinda knew each other so well.

"Go inside. I am needed in the police station" He out his hat on before giving me another hug and a pat in the back for Harry. "Josh will be home later." I wave at him goodbye before walking inside the house.
