I wouldn't say that I hated absolutely everything about Ashborough Girls Boarding School, but the pros were heavily outweighed by the cons. I mean, you're probably wondering why I'm complaining about the school... I've heard it all before.
It can't be that bad.
Stop complaining and get on with it!
Why don't you just transfer?
It's the last statement that gets to me the most, I can't "just transfer". I worked hard to get into Ashborough, its one of the most prestigious schools in the country. You either buy your way in - if you're rich enough or if you're like me, you spend the best part of your time in middle school studying for the entrance exams.
In most schools being a scholarship student would be seen as a great achievement, but at Ashborough it's just another reminder that you're an outsider, that you don't belong in the elitist society.

My backpack hit the floor with a thud as I stopped in the centre of the room, I placed the cardboard box I was holding in my hands on the bed in front of me and took a step back.
This was going to be my room for the next year, I quickly glanced around, envisioning where I was going to put all of my posters and family pictures. I was a prefect this year, which meant that I had a room on the top floor, they were bigger than the average rooms and had double beds, I was quite happy about that. My room being on the top floor also meant that it was away from any of the teachers rooms which in turn would mean that there would be parties... Not that I expected to be invited to any of them.
My phone vibrated in my back pocket, I pulled it out and glanced at the illuminated screen. It was a message from Rachel, she was one of my only friends.
Rachel: you arrived yet? Tell me when you do, can't wait to see you lol
I swiped my finger across the screen, unlocking my phone before swiftly typing up a reply.
Me: Just finished bringing all of my stuff up. Need to unpack then go to the prefect debriefing.
Almost instantly I received a reply. I didn't actually meet Rachel until my second year, she like me was a scholarship student but was lucky to avoid being tormented as she spent most of her time helping out in the library. Hardly anyone used the library.
Rachel: ok, just text me when you've finished, we could get some food together
Me: Sounds good.
I shoved my phone back into my pocket and walked over to my desk, a sheet of printed paper sat neatly in the middle of it.
PREFECT DEBRIEFING
Congratulations on being selected a prefect! As you know, it is a great honour to represent the school in such a way, and any possible colleges you intend on applying for will take this into consideration.
I'm sure you're all enjoying your prefect rooms, but don't forget that there's more to being a prefect than just double beds.
Attendance to the prefect debriefing is mandatory. Here you will given your prefect duty rotas and your partner who will accompany you when on duty.
The meeting will take place at 4pm this afternoon in room 2-a3.
