Jess's POV
I watch as Dr. Miller leads Nate up the stairs. He glances back at me and his stare says, everything will be fine, sorry I have to leave momentarily, I know how much you enjoy staring into by beautiful blue eyes, and with a smirk he jogs up the last few steps.
"My God, can he be anything but annoying and flirty," I say to myself.
"Apparently not," I remember this voice from somewhere. I inhale, "Scream and I'll shoot. Now do as I say and turn around slowly," I turn around to see the man from a couple of nights ago. "Walk out the back door quietly, or I'll shoot when you're least expecting it, and I'll get your pathetic friends as well and we don't want that now do we. Now... who's upstairs?"
I walk toward the back door but I don't answer. Instead I ask, "What's your name? I remember meeting you the other night, but I don't think I got a chance to ask for your name or really introduce my self. I'm really sorry about that by the way." I turn around to face him holding out my hand," Anyway, my name's Jess, and I feel much better talking to people once I've learned their names."
He stands in my way and says, "We can't leave until I have the names of your friends."
I cross my arms in front of my chest and look up to see his face,"I can't tell you their names until I've learned yours. I mean it's only fair. If my friend is going to be killed I might as well know by whom..."
"Fine," he lets out an exasperated sigh. "My name is Jay. Happy now?"
"Quite," I say smiling. "Mr. Nathaniel Christopher McNarma is my friend." I know it's bad that I'm telling some guy with a gun his name, but I just know Nate will make it out of there alive.
"We know someone else is up there. What's your other friend's name?" He questions holding the gun up so it is resting on the flat spot between my breasts.
Right over my heart, I think in horror, He really won't hesitate to kill me!
"I don't have any other 'friends' up stairs, but Nathaniel's doctor is up there. She's here because I just recently got over a cold," I say calmly. But his one word sticks in my head, making me nervous, we.
"What's her name...we can't wait all day," Jay says impatiently.
"Dr. Katherine, I don't know her middle name, Miller." I say cockily.
"That's it you little bitch," Jay says grabbing me and throwing me over his shoulder, "Stop being such a smartass!" He crumples up a piece of paper and throws it on the ground.
"Um, I think that's considered as littering," I say, internally laughing at my oh so funny comment as I hear Nate's footsteps upstairs heading for the basement door.
Please help me Nate. I think as I see his one bare foot hit the top stair, and then Jay is closing the door behind him without making a sound.
******
"You know that you can't get away with this because Nate will come after me," I say as Jay and four other men lock my wrists and ankles into handcuffs that are locked to the floor and wall of the truck.
Now that I think about it, it's like the police van they sometimes use in The Vampire Diaries. "Hey! Jay? Is this like a police van or something," I yell as two men close the doors. "Jay!?"
It's hopeless, I think, How is Nate supposed to find me now!? We haven't moved for more than an hour, which means that we're still in front of Nate's house. If he hasn't noticed that I'm gone, then he hasn't tried looking for me. What if something bad has happened! What if Jay and the other men went to get Dr. Miller and Nate, just like they did for me. But what if Nate and Dr. Miller fought back? What if they died? No, I would have heard a gunshot, or multiple. I would be able to feel if Nate was dead, I'm sure of it. They can't be dead, not yet at least.
I close my eyes and see a flicker of Dr. Miller taking batteries out of a remote, I hear loud noises up stairs. I open my eyes and say out loud, "No. Stop! Jess, your just dreaming." I close my eyes again, only now I can really only see about an inch above ground, Dr. Miller is running towards me, and behind her the front door is open..."Jess! Stop. You must really be crazy, like madder than the mad hatter crazy."
I keep my eyes open, except for blinking of course, for the rest of the time. Soon enough, we are moving, and stopping, (Red lights. Probably.) and then moving again. After about fifteen minutes, we come to a stop and I hear a car door close, and then some man talking. The back doors open, and Jay climbs in with keys.
He looks almost sorry for me in this moment as he says, "If I unlock you, do you promise to not try and run. Because let me warn ya," Jay's voice drops to a whisper, "I've seen what they do to girls who have tried to run before, and it's not very pleasant." He raises his voice to a normal level and says, "Anyway, we're in the middle of nowhere so there is no place for you to run to. Understand?"
"I promise not to try to run, and yes I understand, I'm not a dog. First, before you unlock me," I start and he stops reaching for my ankle, "Why me?"
Jay looks down at his feet and I realize how young he must really be. Under the hairy, grimy looking face, I see a man about twenty-five, not much older than me. He says,"I dunno kid, I'm just the fetcher."
I flinch as he continues to unlock me. I step out of the van and feel the grass between my toes, I'm not wearing any shoes? Huh, how could I not realize--then I feel something hit the back of my head and darkness, yet again, overcomes me.
