Dear Mom,
Happy Birthday! I woke up earlier than usual today to tell you 'happy birthday' but I didn't say it. Instead I smiled and let you leave to go to work. Not once so far, this day, have I said 'Happy Birthday.' I feel terrible. I'm sorry. You kept waiting for me to say those words. No, not just 'happy birthday' but something bigger. Something I don't have the courage to say to you. Something you throw around carelessly at people.
