"That's the last box sweetheart. We need to start the drive." My aunt Dot said. Her reddish grey hair was up in a tight bun and her green eyes held slight pain and sadness. I opened the door to my truck and gave the small house one last look. Tears began to build but I shoved them down along with the lump in my throat.
I sat in the drivers seat and heard the rumble of my black cheavy. My parents had always picked cheavy. I felt my heart squeeze as I thought about my dad and I fixing it together in the driveway. He salt and pepper hair was all you could see when he was diving into the truck. It was funny when he'd let out a string of curses Everytime he'd screw up.
I was tailing behind my aunt as we drove to her house a couple towns over.
I hadn't realized that I was crying till we stopped at a red light and I wiped my face.
I sigh and turn on the radio. The songs were just a background noise as we finished the drive.
I pulled up to my aunts two story house. It was surrounded by forest and was white. I sigh as I get out of the truck. Aunt Dot walked over after she hung up her phone.
"Honey, a friend of mine had sent a couple of their boys to come help move things in, they should be here soon. In the meantime I'm going to go start dinner." She said. I nod and tie my black hair up in a messy bun.
I pull down the tailgate and grab a box of books. I true upstairs and look for the open bedroom door. Walking down the hall I see it and walk in. I set the box against the wall and look around.
It was a big room and I didn't like the plain white walls. Aunt Dot walks in with a small box.
"I know how much you love your art work, so I have some pencils and sharpies so you can make the room your own. Draw on the walls, your mother and I did it all the time." She said. I give a forced smile and she sets them on the box I had brought up.
I say a small thank you and walk back out to the truck. Grabbing a few boxes I heard a car pull up. Four boys jump out of the truck. All red heads. Well then.
"What is with all the redheads here." I mumble. Aunt Dot walks out and sees the boys.
"Oh, they sent the two sets of twins. I'll go make more food." She says as she turns on her heel. I chuckle slightly then sigh. She's just like my mom.
I felt unshed tears prick my eyes but get rid of them quickly as the boys walked up.
"Hi I'm Astrid." I said stick out my hand. All four of them try to grab my hand. The two youngest had my hand and wrist. The two oldest had my elbow and forearm.
"Mikey, Dan, Ashton, and Peter." They said one at a time, shaking my arm to the point it felt like it dislocated. Once they release my arm, I move it a little.
I give a foced smile and grab another box off the truck. The four chatting behind me.
Later that night we all sat down at dinner. I found that Mikey and Dan were the oldest of the four. Both being 20 years old. Mikey was the loud and fun one and Dan being the adult more so.
I also learned that Aston and Peter were 18, my age. We were all sitting at the table eating ribs and burgers. I took small bits not eating much.
"So Astrid what brings you here?" Peter asked. I stopped mid chew. I finished what was in my mouth as everyone stared at me. I wiped my mouth and kept my head down.
"May I be excused?" I asked. My aunt Dot gave a soft yes and I left to my room. I knew aunt Dot was going to explain what happened.
In my room I headed for the bathroom. The tears were slowly rolling down my cheeks as I turned on the water as hot as I could go.
