Love is True

Chapter 1

Laura's POV

I lied down on my bed, wondering if the same person was also thinking of me. I just couldn't get my mind off of him, the guy I liked. His name is Nathan, but we all call him Batman. I sighed and rolled onto my side, hugging my pillow. How will I ever be able to know if he likes me, too? I picked up my phone and saw that it was 11:24 p.m. I shut my eyes and tried to go to sleep, but I just couldn't. After what felt like hours I finally fell asleep, drifting into a world of dreams. 

I awoke to my alarm going off. It (thankfully) wasn't an annoying alarm, but a music alarm. It was currently playing 'Like I'm Gonna Lose You' by Meghan Trainor. I sighed sadly and clicked the stop button. My phone plays a random song each morning. This one just reminded me of how I might never be with Batman. 

I walked into the school, feeling nervous. I didn't let it show, though. I was thinking that maybe later today over text I could confess my feelings to, you know, him. I don't think I could ever bottle up my feelings for too long. I went over and stood next to my best friend, Alexis. "Hi Laura," she said to me. "Hi Alexis." I said, responding. After a minute or two more people started coming in, signaling that a bus had arrived. Sedona, my other best friend, walked in and walked over to us. "Hi Alexis, hi Laura!" she said. "Hi!" I replied. "Hi, Sedona!" Alexis said to her. We all stood around for about 15 seconds before the bell rang, notifying that we could go to our lockers and put our stuff away. We all split up in our separate directions and put our coats and bags away. The others came over to my locker when they were finished and watched me finish up. We talked a little and Molly also came over. We went to the cafeteria and towards the breakfast line. That morning everyone decided to come with me for, as they put it, "support". We are such dorks! We went in and had a short chat with the lunch ladies while I grabbed two muffins. One for me and one for Alexis. We almost always got chocolate muffins, and that's what we also decided to get this time. We walked out and sat at a table, and while me and Alexis ate our muffins, more friends joined us and we all talked. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Batman sitting with his friends and a part of me got happier. I also got nervous. What if when I confessed my feelings he can't return them? "So what did you do, Laura?" Alexis said, and I zoned back in to see them all staring at me. "Sorry, I zoned out. What were we talking about again?" I asked. Sedona laughed. "We were talking about what we did this weekend. For example, I went clothes shopping!" I nodded to show that I understood. "I just stayed at home." They all nodded and moved on to another subject. I didn't lie when I told them I stayed at home, I just didn't tell them all the details. They don't know about how I fancy Batman, and for now, I intend for it to stay that way. In truth I spent all weekend watching TV and thinking about Batman. I just couldn't get him out of my mind, it's crazy. 

I went to my room, having just gotten home from school. I went back out and grabbed a snack before heading back into my room. I watched youtube for about an hour before I decided it was time. I shut my chromebook before turning on my phone. My heart was pounding like crazy while I clicked his name, pulling up our texts. I was so nervous! Batman, are you there? I said, and waited for him to respond. Thankfully, he had his phone with him, and responded quickly. Yeah, what's up? I took a deep breath before sending the text I need to tell you something. I wondered if he could hear my heart pounding through the text itself, since it was beating so loud in my ears. Go for it! I took a quick deep breath and texted the words I have to confess that I like you. I didn't know if I could say that in person, so here it is. I held my breath and squeezed shut my eyes waiting for his response. Laura, I like you too. Do you want to go out with me? I read, taking it in. I read it again and started smiling, realizing that it wasn't a dream. Yes, definitely!!!

"Laura, are you there? Wake up!" said a voice. I jumped awake and realized I was at school. When did I fall asleep? I looked around to see that it was Sedona that was talking, and we were in Social Studies. Everyone was packing up, because apparently we got a few minutes of free time. "What happened?" I asked Sedona, having no idea what was going on. She laughed. "We just finished watching that boring video, Mr. Taylor said we were quiet during the whole thing so we get free time!" she said excitedly. "Oh." I said, being careful to keep it in my usual tone. I wish that the dream could have at least lasted longer. I thought it was true this time! Well, guess my luck just isn't for today.
