Freedom Bound

"Lusa, go now." My dad whispered as he pushed me outside. He handed me a bag filled with supplies. His hand grasped my shoulder as he handed me my knife, "You know how to use this. I know you're strong. As soon as I can ill come find you, but don't wait for me or your mother. You need to get out of here before the patrol gets here."

With tears glistening in my eyes I hugged him tightly. He pushed away and kissed my forehead. "I love you sweetheart."

I started running towards the woods with tears going down my face. At the very edge of the woods I stopped and turned back towards my home. My dad was still outside staring out towards the woods.

Suddenly I stood in horror as my house started erupting in flames. Dozens of patrols flanked the house as they advanced. With each passing second the flames grew and the patrols got closer. I couldn't just stand there and watch this happen, my dad wasn't aware of the patrols coming. I screamed "Dad! Run!"

Before he could react, two patrols came and grabbed him. They dragged him out of sight as he yelled "Lusa! Go! Get out of here!"

It was like my body shut down. They're taking my dad away and my mom is no where to be seen. My house is in going down in flames.

Snapping me out of my thoughts, I heard yelling in Korean and saw two patrols pointing at me. Scrambling backwards, I took off sprinting into the woods. I didn't look back, I just ran away from the place I grew up and from the only family I knew.
