Old Toy

Do you remember,

When you were little

And you got a toy you didn’t like?

But you had to keep it anyway.

You would play with it,

But it was always the “bad guy”.

Without knowing it,

You started getting attached to it.

It was the perfect bad guy.

Then when you were older,

Your mom was about to toss it.

What did you do?

You stopped her.

You couldn’t imagine not having that toy.

You are that toy.

I didn’t want you then.

But now I can’t believe you’re going!

I dreaded when I hear you were coming;

Now I wish you could stay forever!

Would things be different,

If I just had opened my mouth sooner?

I there anyway I can keep you here?

I guess I am too late.

Why do we do this?

Why do we act like we hate someone

Or something?

When really we love,

Care, need, and want.

Even though I’m too late,

You will always be in my prayers.

You will be thought of everyday.

Like a toy you want to keep,

So you place it on a shelf.

I will place my memories of you,

On a shelf in my mind.

When you’re older

You’ll find that toy.

And share it with someone close.

One day I’ll share my memories,

With someone close to me.
