My heart was in my throat, swelling with remorse I didn't deserve to feel. The look in his eyes told me he'd never forgive me for this. But I'd been framed.

He shook his head incredulously, opening his mouth to speak but coming up short. I had never seen him so hurt.

"I didn't kill her, Blake. Please, you have to listen to me," I begged, tears trickling down my cheeks. His entire body was tense as he turned away from me, leaving the room, leaving me with her corpse.

As I fell to the ground, I poured over the exchange that'd just taken place. He wouldn't even speak to me now, no matter what I said. He didn't believe me. I held my head in my hands, slumping onto the floor, facing away from the cadaver. I willed her to wake up, but it was no use. She was gone and so was any chance I had with the man of my dreams.
